Heh... I was actually quite astonished to see this news. Why would anyone improve or indeed alter an already perfect production job? Then again, much like yourself, it's been years since I last span it. Maybe my more matured ears will have something different to say. This was after all during the start of the wall-of-sound wars, where every little channel was high in the red whilst everything related to "noise" was eradicated. Maybe the new release is to address this? |

You might be right about the `stellar' production, Dave! I remember I was more or less a dumb-sh*t teenager when I got the CD, and even back then on my crappy stereo, the album sounded INCREDIBLE, so much depth and detail!
Don't think I'll be getting this newie, the original would likely sound fine just as it is (although, like all this other albums, I probably havent listened to this in at least a decade, I overdosed on them when I first got them for years). You're also spot on about it being his best solo album. Far more ambitious both musically and lyrically than both `Hitchkiking' and `Radio KAOS' - perhaps he maybe even covered TOO many ideas for a single album! |

Without a doubt my favourite from Roger solo-wise - even if I do think he shouts/sings a little too much for his own good.
When he was with the Floyd there was a balance between the vocals and the instrumentation. That all went south after The Wall imo. I don't get why it needed a remaster job though. AtD sounds every bit as good as back when I first bought it oh so long ago. The production was/is stellar. I've often used it as a litmus test for stereos actually. This is awesome news. One of my favorite records, and I was always fond of the production... I can't wait to hear the new mix!

I sort of remember a good while ago to have read something about Jeff Beck doing some shows spanning his whole career... and I believe he even invited Roger to play with him something from Amused to Death (the "What God Wants" songs, or something of the sort). |

My only sadness is that there are no demo's, outtakes & the sort.
When I first heard this album in '92, I flipped on it! I just revised it again last night & it still gives my "goosebumps!". I own a ton of prog albums & I can honestly say that this album ranks in my Top 10 of ALL time! ~Randy Edited by Clepsydra - April 21 2015 at 09:58 |

Ditto. And this thread prompted me to listen to it again after a long time. Great album! |

Man With Hat, now this is where it is even more interesting, Waters said it is not just a re-release, it is a new mix and remake of that previous version. hug
