I didn't even know that they offer tracks there now ... I haven't been using the player for quite a while. Personally I would not recommend buying tracks online at a price which is close to that of a real CD ... as you pointed out, you get much less for your money. It's not only the missing booklet - you also cannot sell the files later if you don't like the music anymore. I recommend services like Napster instead, where you can listen to their whole catalogue for the price of one CD/month. |

I thought that they wouldn't be able to play whole albums without you having to pay for it somehow. That randomised radio feature of last.fm is great. I see that you can download tracks from there for 86 British pence (about 1.3 Euros). That's pretty expensive. It would work out at 13 Euros for a 10-track album and you end up with no CD, no case and no inlay book. I think if you want to use some advanced features of last.fm you have to pay for them don't you? Do you only use the free features Mike? |

Well, I've just joined the PA group, and started to use the last.fm
player. It was on my harddisk already, but I never got around to
listening to it.

There's a plugin that you can install in many media players (winamp, windows media player, ...) which transfers the playlist to last.fm ... when you see entire albums in people's playlists then it means that they have been listening to their own music. last.fm is randomized streaming ... in order to provide that service for free, they in fact must ensure that no complete albums are played, not even more than one song from the same album in a row is allowed.

I notice from the signatures of a lot of people that you seem to be listening to whole albums. Do you have to pay for that? I started using it today and I am just using "Ozric Tentacles radio station", which plays music similar to Ozric Tentacles. I've also seen that you can use the tags and get a "progressive rock radio station" too for example.

BTW: They have a new feature (at least they didn't have it in August): "recommendations radio". Quite nice! |

The radio player is just amazing. I have bought 3 cds yesterday but I choose the radio player just because I may discover a new band. Today I discovered a song from gordian knot which was amazing!!!! Best program ever

Nice little site for tracking what you listen to but I don't think I will download the radio player.

I joined, but than I saw it stated I haven't made any friends, so I was quiet upset. I had to cry for what appeared to be ages, and then I shut it all down, and now I'm a happy camper again. |

I see that you've used the "advanced mode" well ... I'll try tweaking my image later on. |

I know what you mean, Ty1020. But their player is open source software, which means that you could download the source code and investigate it for spyware code ... ok, most people won't do that. But I don't see any problems with that, and I'm also a little paranoid when it comes to spyware. Actually, the radio functionality is really AWESOME.

If you don't know it, check it out: It's the successor to Audioscrobbler, and there's a ProgArchives user group. If you have any questions about what it is, what it does and what it doesn't do ... read their FAQ or ask me. In a nutshell:
Greatly recommended! |
