On a Lazland music cheerful note, given that this thread has been reborn, so to speak, I posted my review of the Corvus Stone II album this afternoon whilst on a return train journey from a tax court case I am involved in.

As I indicated in my review, I found the whole business of overly and ridiculously supportive, and manipulative, reviews a total pain, and said so in another thread.

Colin Tench contacted me, and his decency persuaded me to accept the offer of doing a review.

I am glad I did. It is a great listen, and thoroughly deserves our attention and support.

I tell you what, though. What struck me more than anything was Colin's decency and honesty.

He hated the manipulative reviews more than us old PA sweats, and took positive steps to eradicate them. He wanted honest reviews, and, looking at collab reviews, I think he got them.

He sent me a lovely PM tonight, which I really appreciated.

There is a lesson in all this. The community we have here is, largely, a positive, loving one. Our opinions are valued and respected when we express them honestly, which is the way it should be.

Colin and his cohorts have produced a labour of love. I sincerely hope that the honest supportive reviews they got will help them at least fund a superb follow-up.

Morow.com added to bookmarks on the iPad, and will be listened to during fish & chips tomorrow lunchtime

After many years alone he finally met the right woman and married again (my stepmother) at the age of around 58. After some years they could finally retire in pension and start enjoying their new life as a couple with some free time, but just then my stepmother's mother started to get sick (her husband had already passed away a few years earlier) and had to move into my father's place. She (my stepmother's mother, I will refer to her as Rosa to make it easy) needed a lot of constant care, but she would not accept being taken to a nurse home, she had to stay by her daughter. For my father this was extremely difficult, he surely loved her but she was not his mother so it's never the same. My father's wife had also a very hard time, she did not dare putting her mother to some care home against her will (even if they could more or less afford it), but on the other hand she was also wasting the years she could still enjoy with my father, and she could feel how sad my father was that they were missing their opportunity to still enjoy a few years together in good health.

They proposed to Rosa that she stay home by them but they hire a care assistant during the day hours, so at least my father and his wife could go a bit out and enjoy life a bit, but Rosa would not accept even that, she demanded that her own daughter (my stepmother) had to take care of her.

My stepmother didn't dare to ignore her mother's will and my father didn't dare to impose anything upon my stepmother and her mother Rosa, so Rosa stayed by them and they remained taking care of her, day and night, for around 15 years.

So all in all, because of the stubbornness of Rosa my father and his wife lost the opportunity to enjoy their years of early retirement when they still had good health and could still do quite a lot. By the time Rosa passed away they were in their 80's and their own health and willingness to do things, travel etc had radically diminished.

I find that terrible and very selfish from Rosa, ruining the happiness of her own daughter in the few years she could have enjoyed it (my stepmother had never been married before, my father was her first husband and she loves him a lot). I hope that we people as we get older and start needing assistance, that we are generous enough, not selfish, and not steal the lives of our children for our own pleasure.

Thanks for sharing this, Gerard.

I share the sentiments you express. I am determined that my gorgeous son, now 13, will not have to look after us when we are older.

I have made a number of life style changes this year. I am not smoking, I am exercising properly at the gym, and have cut down alcohol intake by a half. I want to stay fit for as long as I can and not be a burden.

By this, I do not mean that I resent looking after my in laws. I love them dearly, and they have been good to us. Plus my own mother, who is now frail is, well, my mum.

It is, though, very hard work, with little, or no, support from the authorities. Living longer can be both a blessing and a curse.

What a shocking statement to make...........

Cheers Scott. I actually listened to the Supernal Endgame album last month on Progstreaming whilst travelling to a visit on the train. I really rather enjoyed it. It has been added to the albums to buy when I can.

The John Mitchell album is a must buy to me.

Hey, Scott. I have finally had a chance to properly listen to Farpoint on You Tube.

The sampler of Paint It Dark is a very good video the band have put together. I especially enjoyed listening to Part Of Me, and the violin on Stand was especially evocative. For some reason, I could not open Vision Quest, so will try again tomorrow.

The lyrics also seem to be just the type of spiritual journey I am trying my best to reconcile in my own mind. I am beginning to think a lot more about such matters, after a long time in abeyance.

So, thanks for sharing. This is a band who I will be,listening to over the next few days, and will probably try to get the Paint The Dark cd as a starter.

Hey LAZ!!E

Hope you are well, my friend. Haven't spoke to you in a little bit.
I of course, have still been progging fairly hard till my little heart explodes. I find 2014 to be quite another good year for our beloved Prog music. :)

A title that has jumped out at me that I feel would be a great one to share with you is, TIM BOWNESS's: ABANDONED DANCEHALL DREAMS. This is nothing short of a beautifully crafted, soft and very touching album. It is so full of feeling and sweet immersion. Not to forget to mention, Steven Wilson Mixes/produces the album while the great Andy Jackson has done the mastering. The A.D.D album is of very high quality in terms of recording itself and Lends itself to be an already classic in years to come. How Bowness decided to take a 10 year absence is beyond me because his latest album is, in my opinion, one of the very best releases for 2014.

Grab the 2cd version if you can. Very worth it. :)

Talk soon, Chap.

Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

Thanks so much, Scott. No, I must confess that I have not had the chance to check this out yet.

However, once I get rid of Dad (who is visiting for the weekend), this will be the first thing to do next week. I will report back.

I liked doing this blog, but I really have not had a great deal of time to keep it updated. Perhaps I should make time.....

Thanks Samuel. I agree with you very much. Raven....shows a maturity which I think shows a huge step forward from PT, and I enjoyed much of their output a great deal.

The album is also on Spotify - but they spelled the band name wrong Ermm, so google searching for it may not be successful at present. You can play it on your web browser (not IE9 though!) via this link: https://play.spotify.com/album/6hz3Fmwels3K0Q9sctPqQE.  Enjoy!  Big smile

Thanks David. I suspect it must be an Apple issue, then, because I cannot get a thing off of the website on the iPad, and my laptop is at the repair shop at the moment.

I will have a go with the Spotify link after, so, again, thanksSmile

Wanted to ask you what or how you feel about COMEDY OF ERRORS?
May I say that this isn't a band that rubs me the wrong way. I like their retro and modern fusing with I. The Neo Prog sound. Perhaps IN A LIFE TIME and FOOLS CIRCLE will grace your ears at some point.
Love to hear your thoughts.

Be well.

Cheers Nicholas
I did review Comedy of Errors last album, and was not, in truth, particularly impressed. It was perfectly competent, but of certainly didn't inspire me at all, I'm afraid.

I really respect your review. 'Prog by the numbers' with in Neo territory indeed, and I did find your Tresspass connections interesting. The song 'something she said' bursts so wildly with in the last 3 min of the 7:15min piece that did remind me of a certain 70's genesis flare. I also hear the Pendragon element. Holy Kowtow!
Their first album, however, is very Marillion laden. I hear fish era a ton there.

Meanwhile back to Arena. I gave 'The Visitor' another spin with my updated and new sound rig, and I think you are absolutely right about this album as a whole. I know I said I was very pro 'Pride' and 'Immortal' as being complete masterpieces and now I'm inclined to feel that 'The Visitor' is every bit as good as the other 2 albums mentioned....maybe even better.
Anyway. I will be spinning some Twelfth Night tonight. :)
The LIVE AND LET LIVE album has its clutches in me very deeply.
I think I've listened to 'Love Song' and 'Creepshow' about 30 times this week. Just amazing.

Have a great day. Also Scott's right. The Illuvatar album is wonderful, but not as good as Children for my tastes.

Be well.

Thanks Scott. I got to this before, and it does not work, just a track list shows without the means to stream.

As I said, they are on the to get list. Actually, when I finish work next Wednesday for a three week break from work, I will probably start subscribing to Spotify again, so hopefully I will be able to listen there.
OK.  The original link that I had provided was just to the website, and I know that I had some difficulty finding the streaming section, so thought that I would provide a direct link in the event that you hadn't found it.  I always find it somewhat strange what items are and aren't available depending on your location in the world. Oh well.  I hope that you do get a chance to give them a listen.

Laz, I have a couple of recommendations for you.  Both are on the 10T Record label.  http://10trecords.com/

The new Iluvatar album "From The Silence".  I think that this one is a slam dunk that you will love it.  Very much in the vein of IQ; at least that is who came to mind on my first listen to this album.

The second one, which I am really enjoying, is Farpoint's "Paint The Dark".  Best reference I can give you with them would be a Christian version of Mostly Autumn.  Interactive male and female vocals, and listed here on PA as Prog Folk, but very much in a similar Neo-Progressive/Crossover Prog vein that Mostly Autumn reside in.  If Christian lyrics aren't a turnoff for you, then I think that this is one that you will really enjoy as well.

And to throw a bonus recommendation out there, Little Atlas guitarist Roy Strattman has released his first solo album on this label titled The Lie Of The Beholder.  I've only heard the free download from here but it was quite good.  Nick D'Virgilio plays drums on the album, if that has any influence.

The label website allows you to stream the albums if you would like to check them out.

I should have reported earlier (I have a distinct lack of quality PA time at the momentOuch), but I cannot see that I can stream from the record label site. I am assuming this is something to do with the fact I do not live in the US.

Anyhow, given that Scott is always spot on with his recommendations, the above have been added to my 2014 wish list, so I will report back when I get them. This, though, is not likely to be for a couple of months, though, as we are going away on holiday in AugustBig smile

Btw no playlist as such today, but I have the exceptional Mostly Autumn's Dressed In Voices on on the train home from Swansea, where I have spent the day working.

See you all soon.
