I think the Archbishop of Canterbury is really angry at the decades of cover ups and the molestation of children. I do not think there is any ulterior motive whatsoever. Also he has the right to be angry and show it in full public. Also he has the same human rights as you and I have. I have all the sympathies for the Catholic church....... and I remain very sympathetic to it. But when the Vatican is making this into a case of being anti Catholic; that's when I in this case, and in this case alone, am getting really angry at them. There is no defense whatsoever for decades of child molestations and cover ups. No defense !
The Vatican should own up to what they have done like their own teaching of the Bible tells them to do.

At the same time, lawyers and those who hate the Church are loving this, and using it to perpetuate their own self interest, which is disgusting in its own way. For every foul act committed by a priest, the Catholic church has 100,000 little acts of compassion and selflessness, given from nuns and priests, church members, to each other, enriching each others spiritual lives and daily lives. Much more good than bad if you look at the net result.

This is entirely full of win and sums up how I feel about all of it quite nicely.

There is of course no defense for the Vatican's attempted cover-up. I would however assume that priests would be subject to the same laws as other citizens, if exposed. I'm not sure what consequences you would have in mind for the Pope if he was found to have known of cover-ups.
In an interesting development here in UK the Archbishop of Canterbury (spiritual leader of Anglicans) has entered the debate, stating the Catholic Church in Ireland has lost all credibility. I would question his motives for this attack...

None has mentioned this here. With the recent scandal of pedophilia cover-up by the pope (today it was revealed he might actually have participated in shielding the pedophile priests, waiting to defrock them for more than two years), what's your view of this situation and how it affects the church? Should this pope suffer any consequences? Why do civilians go to jail the minute they're known to be pedophiles, yet priests are exonerated (or, at best, defrocked)? Do priests have a licence to be pedophiles?
I'm not attacking anyone's beliefs by the way. But the inner workings of a church made of HUMANS which should be protecting children's interests, not that of the perverts' in their ranks
