Nice one Simon - your dedication to the cause puts us all to shame! What time did we agree on for meeting in the alehouse?

Hello all. ![]() There is a front bar and a smaller area at the rear of the pub but as Syzygy has suggested there is a good chance that the place will be full of Friday night office workers so I’ll try to grab any seat and attempt to keep the Genesis LP in view. The restaurant is halfway down Spring Street and is
perfectly fine for our needs with two seating areas (again one at the back and one
at the front). The food was good and the waiters friendly but was (I thought) a little on the
expensive side I did look around for alternatives but there was nothing else
that was as close to Paddington station. Edited by sigod |

...and the worrying thing is, it only takes me about 4 pints to become the village idiot.... Fear not, by 'early' I mean just before 5.00 or so. I'll not have my drinking head on before eating a meal. T-Minus 3 days & Counting! |

Pubs will most likely be heaving at that time on a Friday, but there's no getting around it I suppose. I don't have any prog vinyls down here in the smoke, more's the pity - maybe I should turn up brandishing my ukulele?

As mentioned before, I'm off to the Golden Shalamar tonight to have a
quick check on if it is suitable. In addition I'll scout around for
likely pubs to meet in beforehand.
I plan to get to the pub early on Friday and stick an LP copy of Genesis' Nursery Crime on the table so people can see where to head. ![]() All apologies to those who might not like Genesis but it was either that or a 12 inch by Bucks Fizz. ![]() Edited by sigod |

Hugues, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Helter Skelter (which was on Denmark Street) has closed down. There's a pretty good music section in Foyles, and there are two branches of Borders which also carry quite a lot of music titles, all on the fringes of Soho. Selectadisc has changed its name to Sister Ray, but is indeed on Berwick Street which is in darkest Soho. There are a few other places down there, including the second hand shop Reckless which can be well worth checking out. The main branch of HMV on Oxford Street is also worth investigating, though their prices can be a bit steep - you'll be pleased to know that they've got Jan Dukes de Grey in the folk section. Intoxica can be worth investigating, although last time I was in there I wasn't too impressed with the prog and related selection. I don't know the other places you mentioned. I can't think of any shops in Camden that are worth visiting, but there are second hand stalls at Camden Lock market that sometimes have interesting items, but the market itself is a bit of a tourist trap with prices to match. |
