At the moment, it looks like we're going to have an endless debate about what constitutes modern prog, instead of anyone actually voting in the poll. I included the description "post-70's" prog bands in my intro.

the only problem I have with Paul’s post is his nomenclature.
I think, especially given how much focus the bands of that era get both on PA and outside it, that a thread about bands that are only post-‘70s is a good one. Just, don’t call them modern, when to most people (although obviously not Paul) modern means something more recent than something from four decades ago…. |

You missed my point. You can rename the thread and make it less confusing. Just name it "favorite post 1980 prog band".

You guys make a good point but I see where Paul is coming from. Maybe "post seventies" is a better descriptor.

Sorry to be Captain Obvious again, but Marillion are a 1980's Neo-Prog band, and Neo = New = Modern Prog, as opposed to Classic Prog from the 1970's. So there you go.

Marillion is a 40 something years old. How is that modern? A band that has started making music in 2001 is 20 years old. Now do you understand the confusion?

A bit later: I thought, it would be ok to do it when concerning post-70's, but I quickly found out, no way man. So, no contribution from David here, afterall. Edited by David_D - December 19 2021 at 13:31 |

quality over quantity, and all kind of PopcoRn almost beyond

Modern is anything post-‘70s? That’s a rather strange definition of modern! 😄🤪

Now's your chance to name your Top 7 modern, post-1970's prog bands. Simply list your Top 7 modern prog bands in order of preference below and then I'll assign the usual system of points to your listings, and remember, it's *bands only* from the modern era who released their first album any time from 1980 onwards, so we're in Neo-Prog territory here. Good luck and may the best band win!
First Band:- 12 points Second Band:- 8 points Third Band:- 6 points Fourth Band:- 4 points Fifth Band:- 3 points Sixth Band:- 2 points Seventh Band:- 1 point Here's my Top 7 list to get the poll underway:- 1. Mostly Autumn (12 points) 2. Magenta (8 points) 3. Solstice (6 points) 4. Pallas (4 points) 5. IQ (3 points) 6. Porcupine Tree (2 points) 7. The Tangent (1 point) Edited by Psychedelic Paul - December 19 2021 at 14:38 |
