^ Thanks for introducing me to the spacey music of La Dusseldorf. They're a real hum-Dinger of a band and completely Neu! to me. Wink

They probably have Jetsons flying cars parked in the garage.

Stop saying I do.
Come to think of it, I can't add Neu! to the third A-Z list anyway as the "N" slot is already taken by Neuschwanstein, suggested earlier by Philchem8. Thumbs Up

Neuschwanstein is another symphonic prog band.

I know, but that doesn't exclude Neuschwanstein from appearing in a Krautrock list, or a list of castles either. Tongue

Gee whiz. Imagine all the windshield wipers you would need for a house like that. And I wouldn't want to have to replace the vent pipe flashing! Shocked

then why is this thread called Krautrock?
Symphonic prog and Krautrock are two totally different genres.

In fact Neuschwanstein - Battlement (1979) is Genesis worship done right.

I would've added Neu to the second A-Z list of Krautrock, but that place ia already taken by Necronomicon, as suggested by BaldJean. I'll be sure to add Neu to the third A-Z list though, if we ever get that far. By the way, I replaced Tangerine Dream with Triumvirat, as I knew it'd take me forever to listen to all of Tangerine Dream's endless multitude of albums. Smile

I like to take loose approaches too. Sometimes I use the word pants to mean tables. So, sometimes you need to set the pants before eating, but make sure you wear your tables before sitting down. In mixed company you could make a social faux pas by dining at tables and use up all your host's paper towels. They would either be impressed or send you on your way to look for a new table. In some households they use their pants as a desk or a catch-all area to open up mail, but what on earth would you do with three- or four-legged tables? You can clearly see how this makes obvious sense to a cloud of polyglots. Don't forget to trim the heat pump beard and offer everyone a 100-pack bag of crazy straws.

I smell another concept album in my future. Shocked

^ I'm not saying the two A-Z lists posted so far are the most important bands in the genre. The Krautrock lists were compiled collectively by the good members of ProgArchives, just as you've now contributed to the third A-Z list by suggesting I add Grobschnitt & Neu! Thumbs Up

Overall Novalis is a symphonic prog band. It's the dominant sound that matters not the small influences, doesn't it?Confused

Triumvirat are symphonic prog exclusively. Maybe if the OP changes the thread title to 'prog from Germany", I wouldn't object to anything.

Passport is exclusively a JRF band. There are no Krautrock tinges.
The only reason Grobschnitt aren't on the first or second A-Z list is simply because Guru Guru & German Oak were suggested for the G-spot beforehand. I'll be sure to put Grobschnitt on the third A-Z list of Krautrock though and give you the credit for adding them too, alongside Neu! Thumbs Up

I was not suggesting Grobschnitt at all, was just surprised you didn't list them, they are a German band with a German band name.

Neu! is the biggest omission here. http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=675 - their debut album and Neu! 75 are must listen Krautrock.

I'm taking a loose approach to Krautrock by including any German bands from the classic 1970's era, rather than sticking to bands that are strictly defined as Krautrock on ProgArchives. Neu! is essential Krautrock, before you listen to a Krautrock obscurity mentioned in this thread, maybe give priority to one of the most important bands in the genre? Confused

Novalis, Triumvirat and Passport do not belong in this thread, especially Triumvirat and Passport.

As for Tangerine Dream, their pre-Phaedra work qualifies here, but beyond that they are a progressive electronic band.

As for you loose approach, make sure it does not become inaccurate approach. Like I said, if you called this thread "prog made in Germany", I would not have any objections to what you posted here.
