And if we consider proto prog as part of the prog universe (seeing as Kate Bush is 'only' prog related), then surely Grace Slick would qualify too. Almost anybody who's fond of classic rock has heard of Jefferson Airplane and quite possibly likes their music too.

Y'know, Kate is the first Female vocalist to achieve mega-popularity.......nothing wrong with that....
I fell in love with Hounds Of Love, (and Never For Ever)........but I thought (think) her music is still tailored for mainstream appeal. For that success, she deserves mega-kudos, but I do prefer lower-key vocal Angels to her. Barbara Gaskin comes to mind as a strong, charismatic vocalist as well, though not many folks are familiar with her..... My current 'pick of the bunch' (testosterone notwithstanding...... ) is Christina. She is beautiful from all angles, and the music she sings along to is just HEAVEN........
