I really think Addicted is the AOTY. Riverside and MotW were decent, but absurdly overrated. PA will never give that album AOTY over the other releases though. Townsend gets no credit for anything here and everyone on this site clings to ridiculous nostalgia ie: the new Magma album.

For me, it's "Destined Solitaire" probably. But remember that Zeuhl genre is either over-rated, or really good. I always feel quite satisfied with every Magma album.

Still have to listen to Devin, we'll see.

Sidenote: Next year will also be special for me, it will be my first full year (which means that I'll be able to keep track with releases better than before I understood PA system (I used it only as reference to some well known albums from 70's)). I'll be able to vote for AoTY, finishing our work with covers (is it possible to have all covers in at least 300x300 size? I think it is, because since October, I personally did about 40 of them. So it's 400 per year and most of them are already good. Also, I'm not alone in my team of course.) and other things like these

wow....excellent work to the one who listed all the potential, and definite, albums to come out in 2010.   I dont know about you guys but the most exciting news is the fact that anglagard is talking about doing some work, anekdoten is making a new album, as well as sleepytime gorilla museum and birds and buildings.  4 of my favorite bands of all time.   I wont say 2009 is the best year since 74??  I dont know who said that, thats just ridiculous to even think.  how can one pick a year as being best?   and yes doing a new album??   I'm sorry  I'm a huge yes fan, but they lost their sound and "badassness" in the 70's.   same with king crimson.   there's too many lineups for this band, they need to retire the name, or make a new one

We still have 1/8 of year left, that's right Bogdan. We should enjoy both of them. I almost tended to "leave the sinking ship, 2009" and welcome widely the brand new year, because the old one was not so interesting anymore. Nevermind, let's enjoy everything. But for this year, many threads were and are available, but now, this is one of the first scouts for happy new year.

I don';t realy know what to expect of 2010, 2009 was and still is a good year in prog, better then many years before. 2009 gave some amazeing albums and some of them still to come in december, so if 2010 will be close to 2009 I will be happy Smile, but I don't tnink will beat this year, is just a thought.

You can also enter new releases at Progfreak.com ... simply add the albums and enter a release date, and they'll be added to this neatly organized list:

http://progfreak.com/home/services/upcoming_music_releases.xhtml

(no "speculative" releases please ... only add the album if it's confirmed that it will be released)

Thanks Jake. And please, accept my deepest apologies. Misspelling of name is one of the worst thing one can do on forum. I had probably on my mind this "Jeff Corvin" guy, you know.

Good idea, adding release dates to these albums.

Anyone willing to do another step in making this thread - adding dates of release / season of the year

Yupparroo!!!

And, for those of you who care, the new Burzum album is called Det Hvite Guden (The White God) and is to be released in March 2010.

I just saw your comment about being overdosed on beer!  I'm dying laughing over here.  LOLClap

Good old Robert drank his beer
Didn't saw that truck is near
Coca-cola was truck incoming
Death for beer was carrying

To beer or not to beer
He was quickly wondering
Should I kill his peer
Whose name Cola is endingd

But the story get confusing
As the time was arousing
We had to leave quickly
Before he began to be prickly

I'm not killer, not anymore
Said Robert, veteran of war
I'll avoid violence, I'm sure
But then, things get obscure

Truck was quickly attacking
Liquid of death unpacking
Bottles fell of dirty boxes
As a nasty, red and mean foxes

Robert had his honor to defend
Before these drinks start to blend
By that time it would be late
Them entering this foul state

To arms my friends Robert said
Armies of coke are quite dread
For our faith we must fight
Let's prove them our might

So the clash between them began
But in that moment came blind man
Prophecy for thee I have he shouted
My words must be undoubted

Right now you stop this fight must
Let's see if we can each other trust
And offered his raised hand
Killed first he was, fell in sand

Battle was quick and bloody
Bodies lying in Big Muddy
Wait a minute, that's Seeger Pete
Talking about Vietnam meat

But that's a different story
About what you don't have to worry
Truth is that finally, beer won
And Robert raised hand with gun

Aimed last surviving bottle and fired
It was now all he desired
Because guys, beer succeeded
And it was all he needed

You, my friend, are a weird ass guy.  LOL

Talking about title Refulgence. This will be great song one day. I'll make more of them, this is just a beginning.

Thanks for other contributions. Remind me if something will be wrong.

Oh, and Virus is releasing a new one too! They're Experimental/Post-Metal.

Also there is a possible Arcturus reunion in the works. I doubt they'll release anything in '10 but it's a possibility...

OH... And The Human Experimente (FEATURING NEARLY ALL OF KING CRIMSON INCLUDING ROBERT FRIPP AND BIG NAMES LIKE MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN) will release their first full length and a series of singles in 2010!!!

rumoured ones

* A FLOWER FULL OF STARS "tribute to The Flower Kings

More than just a rumour - band members of SUPERNAL ENGAME announced on ProgPositivity's discussion list a couple of days ago they have been selected to con"tribute" a track (not yet announced). To say the least, they are over the moon about this. Roine Stolt played on their recently released new album, Touch the Sky. I'm playing the track on my online radio show this Saturday as part of my tribute to Transatlantic.

You all know that ANGLAGARD are thinking of releasing a new album, right? Let's HOPE that it's gonna be somewhere in 2010!!!!

Apart from that, the new TENHI "Saivo" is gonna be out somewhere late spring/ early summer....

I'm REALLY anxious about the new WOBBLER and WOVEN HAND (let's hope it's better than "ten stones")

The new Vanden Plas album will probably be out early next year, there's been little word on it from the band as far as I know but they have been working on it since spring this year. Canvas Solaris and Haken will have new albums out in February and January respectively (Haken's debut). To-Mera may very well have a new album as well.

Anybody heard anything from Virgin Black? They should be working on Requiem Pianissimo (sp?) at the moment.

Really looking forward to the Jacob Hol-Lupo/Lars Fredrik Froeslie/ Kettil Einarsen bands/projects that are comeing out next year.

Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

It's Kobrin not Corbin... Wink

To correct your list a bit:

Alcest was excepted under Experimental/Post-Metal
Mothlite is under Post-Rock
Ne Obliviscaris is not rumored. It's been confirmed for a very long time. They're Tech/Extreme Metal.
I meant the Swedish Shining who would be in Tech/Extreme (though I'm not sure if they were excepted yet)
