Hi, I kinda think that the French team did not pay enough attention to the game and their ability to hold things till the end. It's hard to fault Deschamps on this since he has taken France to victory in the World Cup, and has some great history, but in the end, a loss as this, will likely make them even more dangerous in the WC. But something has to be said for a team that believed they could do this, and did not quit like the French did with 15 minutes to go! Even after the Swiss 2nd goal, they did not play well at all, but it may have been that the Swiss had the better plan all along and were simply waiting for the French to play their "laisser-fare" (spelling) game towards the end ... which was what took place! As for today's game between England and Germany ... I'm not sure that England can survive an aerial assault by Germany, but I'm not sure that Kane and Sterling can not put Germany on the back foot ... this game feels like 1-1 or 2-2 and then go to penalties for another crappy shoot.

I'm afraid we'll get the ugliness first (if we get it, that is), but the winner is only found out in the end. In fact I'm with you insofar that if the game is ugly, that'll be good for England, because the Germans don't like it to be ugly (at least not the current team and manager), and if it is, it means they fail.

France looked like they found their mojo then relaxed with 20 minutes to go. Critical mistake. I think they definitely underestimated the Swiss.
England-Germany can be the ugliest game of the tournament as long as England win.

Edit: I'm misreading some posts for some time. It is not good. Anyway...
France... I was guessing that they had a great chance of winning the cup. I think the French players (at least some of them) underestimated Switzerland. This is a critical fallacy, to think that you can beat a team easily if you're technically superior to them. Today, I'm supporting Sweden... And expecting Germany vs. England to be a very good game. I predicted to my brother and the forum of my football club that France would win the shootout though. If you make enough predictions, some will work.

Terrific football day today! This game was even better!
Lewian, congrats. Perhaps you're not that "crap" at predictions. Edited by Shadowyzard - June 28 2021 at 16:18 |

Fantastic Spain - Croatia game, horrible goalkeeping mistake and a late fight back by Croatia. You'd never have seen Spain give up two late goals 10 years ago.

^ The second half was awesome IMO. Far more exciting than yesterday's games. The last part was... terrible; the pediod after the score was Croatia 3 - 5 Spain.
Spain gave me pain... Anyway, congrats. They deserved more, even if slightly. |

in German this is called "den Schneid abkaufen" (an expression that is not limited to soccer but to any kind of competition; it could be translated as "to take the fight out of someone"). not necessarily intended to injure the player, but definitely to discourage him to do anything significant. foul your opponent hard so it hurts right from the start as a warning
