Flower Power on LP will be great too, will expect that one to be a 3-LP set like Unfold and Stardust.

..."record through the fully analogue Rupert Neve mixing desk..." This makes me so happy! I think they have done this on a couple albums in the past few years. If I remember right Agents of Mercy and a couple other TFK albums have been recorded analog thru a Neve board as well. The final mastering is probably all digital, but at least the original capture is thru an analog mix board. I'm also looking forward to more LP releases, hoping for Adam&Eve and Sum Of No Evil soon...

Prog icons The Flower Kings are pleased to announce the release of their 15th studio album ‘By Royal Decree’, set for 4th March 2022. The band have also announced the first live dates in support of the album, taking place in Sweden beginning end of March 2022. The band are back at their most creative, flowery and playful – mirroring the 70’s melting pot of folk, symphonic, electronic, jazz, blues, funk & prog. On the new album they have looked for more organic and vintage sounds, still centered around the foundation of drums, bass, guitars and the iconic Hammond, grand piano, mellotron & Moog synthesizers. The album also sees the return of founding member Michael Stolt, who takes up bass guitar and vocal duties which he splits with long-time member Jonas Reingold, alongside the line-up of Mirko DeMaio on drums, Zach Kamins on keyboards, Hasse Fröberg on vocal & guitar and Roine Stolt on vocal & guitars. The band convened in the middle of 2021 at Fenix Studios in Sweden to record through the fully analogue Rupert Neve mixing desk. The album also features beautiful cover art, once again created by Denver-based artist Kevin Sloan. Next years tour will also see the band revisiting their early years, performing tracks from ‘Retropolis’, ‘Stardust We Are’, ‘Flower Power’, ‘Space Revolver’ and ‘Back In The World Of Adventures’. This will coincide with the release of newly remastered editions of The Flower Kings albums on CD & Vinyl later in 2022. The first confirmed live dates are as follows: 30th March 2022 – Katalin, Uppsala, Sweden 31st March 2022 – Musikens Hus, Gothenburg, Sweden 1st April 2022 - Södra Teatern, Stockholm, Sweden Look out for more information on the new album, pre-orders and the first single on the 10th December. Hiya friends! I've been getting back into Prog lately and have been enjoying Doug's Friday songs for a while now. I was incredibly surprised when I saw TFK pop up on his radar and enjoyed the reaction imensely. I'll echo what Catcher said above, Doug is a lot of fun to watch / listen to. I don't listen to much on Youtube, Doug is one of the exceptions. That being said, great to see this thread is still active. It's what, like 13 years now! |

You know what? I wish Roine Stolt would do a music production/mixing masterclass. xD

Not sure if you guys watch any reaction videos on YT, but this guy is one of my favs. Doug has a doctorate in music, he composes music and has like 10yrs of schooling for his degree. I love that he dissects music and gives a perspective that for the unschooled music fan gives so much info on song creation. He also love lyrics and dives deep into the meanings. He has been focusing a lot on progressive rock music. On Friday's he dedicates that to a long song/epics for a longer video. He has done Suppers Ready, CTTE, Octavarium, Spock's Beard......I am not sure I have seen any reactor do TFK..........This is excellent and he really sees how Roine creates such complex pcs and puts them together so very well Enjoy!! (BTW, I started a thread about his videos here if u wanna see more of them) Edited by Catcher10 - August 07 2021 at 10:20 |

^Last album was much better than 'Waiting for Miracles'; I think they kind of nailed the short song format with 'Islands', don't know why some people get grumpy about them... In fact, I don't understand why some people are grumpy about TFK at all!

You're right. I also love the shorter songs like in island, they're very catchy and fun and Roine good at this style.

I'm there too, I really like Islands and a few of those songs could have been 12-15min pcs and a couple 20 min epics. The last Transatlantic left me kinda meh, although much better than Kaleidosope. More TFK is always a good thing!!

I'm actually hoping for more of the same of the last two albums. I think Roine overdoes it when it comes to epics.

That would be awesome! I do really like Islands though, but I feel like some of those tracks could have been a lot longer and some themes and ideas could have been expanded on more.

I might be wrong, but I heard that the next TFK album would be less "song-based" and more "epic". Can anyone confirm?

Islands was just awesome and Roine's contributions to the new Transatlantic album all seem to point to the new Flower Kings record being their late career masterpiece. Here's hoping!!!

Getting pretty quiet in here! Haven't you all heard that TFK's are in the studio recording new material? Not sure on release dates or anything, but I'm sure the web site or Roine's site or Roine's many FB pages will have that information. Based on Islands, I'm actually looking forward to this one, which hasn't happened to me since Banks disappointed me.
