This lineup is definitely better than the 2007 one, although I love Faust.

Yeah, I just checked my college's calendar and I doubt I can go unless I take a week off from classes, blow all my savings, and convince my parents to let me fly to France.  Don't think it's going to happen. Cry

Oh well, at least I got to see Koenjihyakkei at NEARfest.

And Assaf, you're evil for not warning me about this! Evil%20SmileWinkLOL

Haha, I only swear when no-one's listening (reading?). LOL  Sailorish language just sounds wrong in a well-spoken English accent, anyway!

But I Is Very Excited! Big%20smile  A bunch of my favourite recent discoveries, so conveniently gathered - I'd be an idiot not to go, really.

But I think I'll go seulement.  (I, uh, I'm going to see Magma à Paris in Feb. (barring any mishap), and you can't really go to Paris for Valentine's day without your boyfriend, so he'll come too... but he doesn't want to go to the concerts!! Confused  So, I can't really consider dragging him to a field in France to further endure my taste in music. LOL)

Anyway: James, you have ample time to buy a passport and convince your ladyfriend to accompany you.  (Ladyfriend...?  Is that gossip I smell? Big%20smile)

They're more than a bunch of recent discoveries for me, Melissa, they're some of my favourite bands of all time!

I've already convinced the possible future ladyfriend to go. LOL  I just need to sort out a passport now. Wink

Yolk - in fact there are two Yolk's: One is Swiss and the other French. The one in question is the Swiss one:

The French Yolk:
YOLK (wrote a review for them if you're interested).

ARANIS  -

Incidentally I just opened a thread about them here (which unsuprisingly has gone unnoticed again):
Listen to Aranis (chamber music)
By avestin, 24 July 2008 at 17:28

Aranis is a Flemish septet playing a somewhat minimalistic contemporary classical with touches of folk and the occasional post-rock spirit. Their music covers grounds from the repetitive and haunting to the more free spirited, melodic and compelling.

The group consists of Jana Arns (flute), Liesbeth Lambrecht (violin), Linde de Groof (violin), Marjolein Cools (accordion), Axelle Kennes (piano), Stijn Denys (guitar), Joris Vanvinckenroye (double bass)

Their music can be likened to a soundtrack (which is in accordance with the phrase on their main page – “Music for an imaginary film). At times sounding like a mixture of Yann Tiersen and Clint Mansell. Think of “Amelie” meets “Requiem For A Dream”.

Here are some excerpts from reviews as they appear in their website:
"Classical music and rock are growing towards one another. An evolution we can only be pleased about."
Focus Knack

"Two violins, a double bass, accordion, piano, flute, guitar and almost no voice: it is quite clear that Aranis wants to make music you do not hear just anywhere."
De Standaard

"The secret of Aranis lies in the compelling fact that, as a listener, you are flung to and fro between the finesse of a classical concert and the excitement of a rock concert."
De Tijd

Recommended for people who like DAAU, Volapuk, Gatto Marte and older chamber rock bands like Univers Zero, Julverne and Present.

Listen to the band here - http://www.myspace.com/aranis

Don't think I need to present SGM...

Oh and ZARTians, you have two new suggestions by Uwe and Greg in your thread; have a look, both valid additions!

Flora (the present Mrs Syzygy) came with me to the last RIO festival, but she's not going to bother this time - she likes some of the same music as me (she went to see Gong with me a few weeks ago and loved it) but she's not big on RIO aside from odd bits of UZ/Daniel Denis and she hates Zeuhl.

Martin (Alucard) and Sean Trane should both be along for this one, so it looks like being a big ZART team gathering. James - go to the post office right now and get your passport application!

I need to sort a passport out... and if all works out with my lady friend, I may convince her to go... although it's a way off yet!

As long as nobody from Faust wields a chainsaw in the crowd this time round, all will be good!

Magma = holy...
Koenjihyakkei = holy...
Present = holy...
The Muffins = holy...
Univers Zero = holy...
Jannick Top's Infernal Machina = holy...

Don't know Yolk, Aranis or SGM yet.  Aranis are Belgian chamber prog though, I believe.

This is quite possibly the best festival ever in the history of festivals!

Six of my favourite bands/artists... holy...

Well I'm definitely going to be there - if anything, the line up is even better than the first one.

Wow, how indubitably cool.  That really is a dream line up! Thumbs%20Up  I hope I can go.  The dates would fit in well with my work schedule, so if I start plotting/scheming/saving now... hmm, all being well, see you in France. Wink
