Canned Heat are coming up later, and regarding Jefferson Airplane, they were the only band to play all three of the major music festivals at Monterey, Woodstock & Altamont, and they recorded their landmark Surrealistic Pillow album at the RCA Victor Studios  in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Grateful Dead are a San Francisco band too, but I couldn't possibly consider leaving them out of the listings (on Page 2 of this blog) Smile

Yes; by the time of Surrealistic Pillow, there was no recording studios yet in Frisco - surprising as it may seem. At least that's what Tamarkin said in his Got A Revolution book

The Ballroom were a  Sunshine Pop quartet who made joyous sweet music together, which  consisted of L.A. producer Curt Boettcher, along with Jim Bell, Michele O'Malley and Sandy Salisbury. Curt Boettcher later went on to form the close-harmony supergroup The Millennium in 1968, hence the album title, Preparing for the Millennium. Smile

MARTY BALIN    (1942-2018) Broken Heart      A singer/songwriter originally from Cincinnati, Ohio who shared the stage with Grace Slick as lead singers in both Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship. You may recall Marty Balin performing with Jefferson Airplane at the disastrous Altamont Speedway concert in December 1969, when a member of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang (who were meant to be providing "security" at the concert) mounted the stage and punched Marty unconscious. ASHES featuring Pat Taylor      A Sunshine Pop band from Burbank, California, featuring the honeysuckle-sweet voices of Pat Taylor and Barbara Robison. After this short-lived folksy foursome blew away like dust in the wind, the Peanut Butter Conspiracy arose out of the Ashes. This charming album may not have changed my life, but it's surely brightened up my day with its sunny Californian vibes.  Smile
