Journalist John Sweeney's memorable Secrets of Scientology investigation where he famously brings a whole new meaning to having a heated discussion. Smile

I find Jonestown particularly disturbing and the footage (wish I'd stayed away from that -- not good for my well-being -- found it very distressing). I was so invested in researching Heaven's Gate at one time that I almost felt like I was a member of the group. I felt a strong affinity, not with the leaders, not with Ti and Do (Do I feel I know more), but with the people who joined the cult and I feel great sadness for the families and their loss of "the away team".

I guess now I'm not so into such things because they affect me more strongly on an emotional level.

I've watched fascinating but disturbing documentaries on all of those cults you mentioned, but the only American cult that really appeals to me is the one below. Smile

My favourite "cult". You can always do "your" own documentary concerning this, with a random crowd; possibly all over the world.

You would think that only half-wits would be suckered into it.  However, from what I is saw there are a lot of highly educated and intelligent folks that fall for it.

Saw several but do not remember the names of most of them.  Last one was the documentary on Scientology. Never thought Scientology as a cult until I saw that documentary.  If even half of what was portrayed is true, then yea, it’s a cult.

This is a topic that I am very interested in, but am wary about discussing because of themes.

I've seen Holy Hell. My favourite I saw on Netflix was the series Wild Wild Country (six episodes I think).  I've seen that al the way through at least twice.  It's fascinating, and I think so well made.  I highly recommend it.

I have been wanting to watch the HBO Max Heavens Gate series  The Heaven's Gate podcast was very good, but even with nine episodes on it, I felt it did not go into enough depth (it missed details, this is one that I have heavily researched and watched lots of video footage from the group and read lots from survivors -- people who had left the cult before the exit).  Warnings come with it as it could trigger some.  I have subscribed to a few cult podcasts.  Lets Talk About Sects is one.

I've seen a handful, and most are very good. I just woke up from a nap, but once I get some caffeine, I'll look some of them up.

"Holy Hell" is the only one I can remember at the moment after a quick search.
