@Greg, this is awesome! I'm sure your effort payed off. Music can go a long way, it increases our vital energy. I've seen your recent threads about the albums of the last two decades. I was on vacation and couldn't join in but I'm very interested in what you're doing. Keep it up!

I didn't take part in the last poll, but I enjoy this one, found it easy to come up with ones (but my tastes have never been more modern/ recent than now) and ranking others is easier than when I would comment on all of the songs. I had the same idea before to make it more interactive for all, but thought it might be a burden to too many. Then I thought maybe I would make it optional.
It wasn't nearly as easy as I thought it might be, as it took multiple listens before I even felt somewhat comfortable suggesting an order for Nickie's songs (one favourite of the bunch is easier, but that can be tough too, as is the final vote tough often). If it's moved down to three, which I don't expect Nick to do so, then I would remove my Current 93 (I liked having Current 93 as it is a "current" poll). While I like to try to respect and honour the OP's wishes, maybe it could be open to people who wish to mention less, and perhaps who say that they won't have time to rank other's songs. Then those who did not rank others songs could be in the poll as a bonus "un certain regard" vote. I like the poll as is very much, but can understand why it would make it too difficult do some and limit participation (the last poll did better than I would have expected -- with this as just 2022, that might limit things more -- I love the idea of a really modern poll). |

My 2 cents. I enjoyed the last poll and the format, but agree the format takes up time and limits participation. It's okay to have once in a while, but having two polls in row is too much.
As for the current theme, I like it but would have to think and check what actually was 2022 release and not 2021. Much new music I have gotten is more well known, but do have a few lesser known favorites. |

The voting system in the previous poll was ok as a one off. Yes, it worked better than expected but the whole thing took far too long, it's too time-consuming. Besids the people you have mentioned, the final votes of two more people are still missing, incl. those from Nick himself. That's why I'm a bit surprised that he's suggesting this voting system again, you see. Edited by Mila-13 - August 12 2022 at 04:41 |

I don't agree with you here, Mila. I think that, despite the quite demanding effort, this poll worked out very well (actually surprisingly well, because when Lorenzo launched it I didn't expect there would be that many participants...). Only the Baldies and Cristi didn't go to the end (whereas Cristi had announced that he would not necessarily have the time at hand). If it really hadn't worked out, I don't think Nick would have followed the same formula. That said, I think this system is too time intensive to adopt it on a regular basis and that it is maybe better suited for broader themes...

I see, of course I'd been lying low for quite a while, so unaware of the attempt at the voting system prior.
Anyway, will adjust my initial response if it's decided to shift the current poll rules.

Hey Nickie, great to hear from you! I hope all is going well with you?
You're absolutely right, general discussions about polls should take place in the team thread, but ideally in advance, of course if time allows. But that's just not always possible, esp. during the holiday season. In the previous poll Lorenzo has already tried this preliminary voting system, but it didn't quite work out. It was altogether a bit too time-consuming.- As for the poll topic itself, limiting the release date to 2022 could be a bit too restictive for some of us. At least it takes a little time to check the material we have. I personally rarely pay attention to the exact release date when looking for new music. But meanwhile, I have taken a closer look at my more recent material and I noticed that I actually have a surprisingly large amount of material that meets the criteria. There are of course also a few well-known artists, last but not least because the pandemic crisis has affected all of our lives in some way and esp. the life of arists of performing arts. Therefore I totally agree with you that at this point the level of popularity of an artist should be less relevant. Edited by Mila-13 - August 11 2022 at 16:45 |

Perhaps this area would be better for discussion of the mechanics of a poll?
That being said, I kind of like the idea of ranking of the choices to come up with nominations, that doesn't necessarily require discussion on how you came to your conclusions, for those lacking time. Many people don't do a discussion in the first place, and many also wait to listen to just the final nominations. I would also think that even if one has heard some of the material before (which is not everyone's caveat, but usually mine), that one could still come up with how to rank the choices of each participant. For this poll, since I listen to so much new output, I would not be averse to sticking to my "I know this one, so won't vote for it," stance, at least certainly for the initial 4 selections of each participant. I know we've usually done 3, but as we all know, some have come up with multiples beyond that without it causing undue hardship. Now, it may have to be said to stick to a hard 4 decisions, because of the ranking portion, but one could just choose 1-4 of even 10 choices, lol. |

You will have to find someone else instead. Nick let us know in the current poll thread that he's on holidays atm. As for me, I'm not much around either. I can open a poll but not until after the summer break. Edited by Mila-13 - August 04 2022 at 14:13 |

Thanks for the invitation, Lorenzo - maybe next time.- I've noticed that some new people have joined your poll. Perhaps this is an opportunity to do some promo for the Interactive Polls?

I'm always up for trying new things but this voting system in combination with an all prog poll? Besides, I'm into fresh sounds or at least something that is new to me. I think I'm gonna skip this one. Wake me up when it's over!
