I live in the South, and I'm getting real -ing tired of having to put up with all the pride associated with Civil War landmarks. How -ing stupid do you have to be to take pride in a war you didn't win? I doubt if I go to Germany they've converted the gas ovens into -ing rave clubs where the showers now emit foam. If I go to Hiroshima someone isn't gonna try to sell me a bottle of -ing "Nuclear Hot Sauce: Megatons of Flavor". You -ing lost, have some -ing shame. Another thing: anything that survived the Civil War was unimportant. General Sherman's March to the Sea left Georgia burning. If a building remained unscathed it means that Sherman, the Erik the Red of American history, didn't give enough of a to burning the -ing thing down. Shut up and get thee to the nearest Wal-Mart and buy a gun to kill some deer. That's another thing, why would a store that makes me want to kill myself have the audacity to sell -ing firearms? That's a smart idea: making guns readily available near my college campus, especially around exam time. Is the clocktower included in my purchase, or does that come separately? And you can never get around the place because everyone trudges through the store with that empty look -ing Vietnam vets have as their five unwanted, tax-relief children fan out across the aisle behind them. -ing MOVE!

I completely understand the point and agree wholeheartedly (see last post) however, having just re-read some of this thread, I found myself thinking unprofessional ???
Pardon me sir, but I must inform you that my profession is not typing on a prog forum, so as such does that make me exempt from your ruling? Does that mean as an ammateur member of PA I am entitled to stuff up the english language as I see fit?
I need to know by the way, just who here in on the payroll?

It is not only annoying but a debasement of our beautiful language; if one cannot express oneself adequately without the use of youthful acronyms, one should stay away from the internet, invest in a good book and jolly well read. In this manner, you will increase your vocabulary and be better able to communicate effectively in writing without the use of such irritating abbreviations.

totally agree wiv u Jim!
No, really! My son sent me a text yesterday to let me know he was on his way home from a club he goes to, I had to phone him for a translation!!!
Crazy, I don't understand it at all!
(please bear in mind he was bought up without TV or computer access until he was 10, even now I am fairly strict, and spent his childhood whooping my ass at scrabble!)
I do get annoyed when folk get angsty about typos though, there is a big difference between simple ERRORS and plain laziness....
yes Jim I know I should preview first

I understand that this is annoying, but language is essentially a way of communicating information as quickly and efficiently as possible, so this LMFAO BRB stuff is technically better than a stack of flowery prose. |

Sometimes I think that if I had a row of emoticon badges on my lapel that I could point to as I spoke. It would be quite useful for me as I all too often deliver humorous remarks in dead-pan, which is okay most of the time, but has caused the occasional misunderstanding in the past. (They didn't take to kindly to it inTexas )

Languages change. Some people will be crabby about it and sit with arms crossed and say "Hrmph!" Oh well.

You, my friend, are what they called "owned", which, suffice to say, is not all that clear to a newcomer like you to comprehend. It basically means that the poster feels that you have erred and feel so wonderfully enlightened and arrogant, they feel they have to actually tell you that you have erred... when in reality, you have likely not erred at all and thus, it makes them look stupid at the same time.
Does that make more sense, Chris?

What a curious parlance these internet fiends use to be sure.
Next thing you know we'll have progressive rock bands inventing their own languages - imagine how unlikely a scenario that is!

...As rants go James, this kind of lacks something. I think you need a few of these , a couple of these and maybe one of these

Sadly, I have heard Zomg, Lol (and El-oh-el), Roflle (and Rolf) and pwned - and I don't associate with that many people of diminutive age.

Internet slang...
It annoys me!
The three that are especially annoying me at the moment (apart from LOL, LMFAO and the like), are IIRC, AFAIK and IMHO (and its derivatives).
Stop using them, they look unprofessional and outright daft! Many millions of people who have never used the Internet will have no idea what you are talking about if you use such abbreviations. Even some Internet literate folk will have trouble understanding you... I know I have in the past.
So stop it.
Even worse, are people who use them in reviews on this very site. Why? You write a very well written review, positing your thoughts on said album with aplomb and then you have to go and spoil it all by using "IMHO"... No, just no.
Do not be so lazy!

ROFLMAO u r such a n00b!
Pwned!
(if anybody can enlighten me as to what any of that actually means I'd be most terribly grateful ).
