It's been tighter than a duck's whatnot so far. I think a mistake might make the difference.

van Persie from the start is good news for Netherlands. As a team I think the Dutch have been much better than Argentina, but Messi is capable of winning the match alone, Then again, so is Robben. You can hate him, he’s still one hell of a football player.

Part of me wants Netherlands to win so we can have a
Netherlands v Germany final as they get on sooooo well!
Argentina v Brazil 3/4 play off ! Never gonna be a friendly
they would both be worth watching.

We only lost last time because of Lampard's disallowed goal. Obviously, had that been allowed, we'd have gone on to win that one.

Brazil, and, specially Scolari, who formed this team, had it coming.
This sure isn't a golden age for Brazilian football, but when you leave
players like Lucas Moura, Rafinha, Joao Miranda, Filipe Luis, Lucas
Leiva, Ronaldinho, Robinho, Kaka or Alexandre Pato out of the world cup
and include others such as Jo, Fred or Hulk you know there's something
wrong.
Here in Argentina we have complained about important
relegations made by Sabella (Tevez being the most well known). But what
Scolari did was criminal. He turned his back on everything Brazil has
represented thoughout its history, and now he has paid the price.

Oh what a glorious day yesterday. A team that used to be the team to watch if one wanted to see good football, that betrayed that in order to become a talent less violent squad, was destroyed by a team that used to play it rough and to-the-point, but now has added that good treatment of the ball that it actually used to be a Brazilian treat. And Germany has also redeemed the passing game, the "tiki-taken" (as they call it, an adaptation of Barca's and Spain's "tiki-taka") adding depth and speed to that combination.
No matter what happens one team I like will win this world cup, now that the worse-than-Italy-at-destroying-football Brazil has been trashed.
When you go from having Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo (and that wasn't even a "jogo bonito" squad anyway, but what talent up front!) to having Fred and Hulk, you know you have basically betrayed your whole history of Peles, Garrinchas, Socrates, Romarios, etc.
And today, all hail D10S, Messi. Hope he can pull it through. Will be hard, very hard.

For me the Dutch have punched above their collective weight so far (world class attack, very ordinary defence) while Argentina have done just enough to get through but their strengths and weaknesses are very similar. Difficult one to call but I suspect that if van Persie is missing through injury, and Sneijder 'goes missing', the South Americans just might prevail

My prediction for tonight:
Argentina 1 The Netherlands 2
Argentina were my tip for the World Cup pre-tournament but I have a feeling that the Dutch will nick it tonight.

Did it not seem like the Brazilian players played like they had no chance because they were missing their best scorer and defender? I stupidly felt that Brazil could still squeek out a 1-0 score but man was I wrong. Total domination, well the first 15 minutes or so of the second half was all Brazil but witout results. I'm really intrigued about tomorrow's game and I think Argentina will play with desperation after seeing what happened to Brazil. Go Holland! |
Go Holland!? Truly. If the Netherlands win this semi-final (the division bell will ring for our royal family tonight ) they have a chance to settle something with the Mannschaft after 40 years. The Dutch team has overcome its long and tragic history with penalties against Costa Rica, so I'd love to see them beat Argentina (won the final in 1978 against the Netherlands) and Germany (won in 1974).

I think it's ridiculous to think that football is some dour sport without much flair or individual excellence....
Anyways, to lighten up the mood, here's an Onion article that I've read. Quite fun:
