Bartosz Piasecki, ranked number 47 in the world, has reached the final of the Fencing Men's Individual Epee tournament and secured Norway's first ever fencing medal in the Olympics That's an Olympic fairytale come true!
Can he go all the way and give Norway its first gold medal in London 2012? We'll get the answer to that question in the final later tonight.

The totally unknown (to me at least) Norwegian fencer Bartosz Piasecki has reached the semifinals of the Men's Individual Epee tournament and Edvald Boasson Hagen is fourth after lap 3 of the Men's Individual Time Trial Road Cycling competition (as I'm writing this). This might just turn out to be a pretty good day at the Olympics for us Norwegians

They earned it; I only caught the beam and floor events, but the Americans nailed all of their routines there. Gabby Douglas, Jordyn Wieber, and Alexandra Raiman on the floor exercise were incredible.

Oh absolutely! I think they would have taken it regardless of the Russian floor exercise outcome. They put quite a team together this year.

Congratulations to Michael Phelps for winning his 19th medal today, and his first gold as well!
I'm actually really enjoying the Olympics this year, I was never big on
them before, but I'm really immersed in the sports that I do like -
soccer, swimming, judo. Women's volleyball is pretty interesting too.

Oh well Bronze but still incredible for us! |
Yeah, that was pretty crazy what happened there. I don't know if it counts as a controversy, but it certainly doesn't help. I'm not that well read on gymnastics but I don't think I'd count what the japanese guy did as a handstand. |
I don't think, from what I know, that it is a controversy. I wouldn't want to make it one as it really is such a brilliant achievement to get Bronze.
It was due to the Japanese gymnast not being given points for his (attrocious) dismount. And thems the rules! So, no controversy.
The controversy is the US coach accusing the Chinese swimmer 16 yrs of cheating. It was only a matter of time! |
I know I need to brush up on my gymnastics, but if what he did was technically a handstand (by whatever definition the judges use to judge those things) than yes...no controversy at all. I'm not calling it a controversy...just was a very strange ending to me. But yes congrats to your brits!

Not surprised. Frankly, he looks it. And acts like it, at least from the bits and pieces they show on tv. And of course he doesn't medal again tonight in the 200 free. My my... And good luck to your friend...it'd be cool to know an olympian in real life.

Yeah, you Aussies have some very good swimmers, especially your women. And most of them are very pleasing for my eyes too. But then again, I think the most attractive females at Olympics are swimmers. I knew my sport was good for something!
