An original vinyl print of Uncle Meat?

yeah!

Here's some pics of it. Sorry about the low quality, this is the only camera I have

awesome booklet! Includes sheet music of King Kong and Uncle Meat

Also, here's an 09 reissue of Trout Mask Replica on Zappa's very own Straight label

It's quite mind-expanding, and you notice little details in Zappa's music that you may have never noticed, by listening to everything in chronological order. I've commented in this thread about it.

man, even with a discography as eclectic as Zappa's, I don't think I could spend so much time listening to his discography in order. Keep on truckin

Yeah, I've got the LSO in vinyl but haven't listened to it years.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

So I just finished up the 81-82 era of Zappa's music.
Chalk Pie
One Shot Deal
Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch
The Man From Utopia (vinyl mix)
The Man From Utopia (remix (UMe))
You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 5 (disc 2)

These are the next few Zappa albums and shows in my chronological listen:
London Symphony Orchestra
The Perfect Stranger
Francesco Zappa
1984/06/16 Berkeley
Beat The Boots III (disc 3)
("None of the Above")

I think I've hit a brick wall. LSO is a hard listen, and I really need to be in the mood to listen to it. I've probably only listened to it 4 times ever. It's one of Frank's darkest albums, and wildly dissonant. Doing this chronological run, I've realized that there is little of Zappa's classical music or chamber music recorded from 1973-1982, so it's been mostly rock/jazz-fusion. After all these albums, diving right into LSO is like making a 180 turn in Frank's canon.

The other albums are much easier to listen to, in my opinion, though I don't know the '84 classical performance that well. I've considered giving this up and just listen to whatever FZ album I want again, but I've gone so far, I would like to keep going. This has become harder than I thought (don't worry, I've had a lot of fun doing this, I'm not complaining)

I read all about him on Wikipedia. But through all of this you don't learn his music. And I don't really have the interest of listening to every single song from every album. So what's his best work? What has he done, what can you recommend? What's your favorite things about this man? Stories? Affairs? Mailmen? Who is this awesome person?

A very good question.

Best one stop shop for FVZ is Lather. 3 CDs of an example of most things great and good. Probably the most representative album. He even does a bit of the Whole Lotta Love theme soling over the riff (Duck Duck Doo). But a sublime piece of music that may just (short of Watermelon In Easter Hay) be his most exquisite number is The Ocean Is The Ultimate Solution.

If Hot Rats made it's way into the collection that would be a good thing. But lather is the one.

Might be an idea to regard his '60s era Mothers of Invention music in a different way. He joined that band and became their writer, leader and inspiration divine. Not that you'd think so from the bootlegged asides from his fellow band members that somehow found their way on to their records...

I did see that, and I assumed as much.  Wishful thinking, but I like your optimism! Violin

Also, you may or may not have noticed Roxy By Proxy on my list, well, I forgot to take it off, as I made the list up months ago, thinking it would have been release by the time I started this chronological marathon...

I definitely thought I wasn't going to keep it up after Joe's Garage and that '79 show, but taking a week off before picking right back up at Tinseltown Rebellion was a very good idea.
