Agree 100% with you on the top 3.

Rothery would be 4th for me.

Mind you, Mike Nicholls and Bryan Josh run any of them close, especially if you have heard Frequency and Glass Shadows.

It's early in the morning here... so I'll vote for the dreamy rock style of Andrew Latimer! He has played so many good solo's for us!

I vote Zappa - totally unique, instantly recognizable, rhythmically fascinating, quirky, jerky...

Fripp is the most creative on the list, by very far....It's a question of taste but the man simply took the fretboard and propelled it into the future.
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

Gotta go with Gilmour.
His solos, especially on his latest solo album, are amazing.

And, he plays a mean slide guitar.

Holdsworth is the best, Clap so I'm not voting.  After that, I would say Hackett, then Fripp, then Howe.   All these guys are damn good and much better than I will ever be.   Besides, who says only one has to be the best?  There's some widely divergent styles among these players, and all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Oh bloody heck, not another best of poll. Tongue
Martin wasn't getting any love yet so I voted for him.
Hard to choose a favorite there.

Allan Holdsworth then Roine Stolt

I voted for Hackett from the list, but in retrospect perhaps Zappa
