Holy krappola people, we are a PROGRESSIVE ROCK MUSIC WEBSITE!! Shocked Everything is looooooooong and multiple sides of LPs or box CDs.

The instant gratification of the world and social media has now leaked into music, we have no patience to sit and listen and soak it all in, ADD has taken over Thumbs Down.

I can't wait for Roine to release an 8-LP set with 4-CDs, of one album.....Bring it on!! Clap

LOL

I didn’t listen to the album yet but I don’t understand why they had to make another double album, that’s three double albums in a row.

I do listened to Island and really enjoyed, so maybe I’ll give the new one a try but the length just turn me off.

The Great Pretender is great track though.

I like it. There are some really good tracks, and some tracks that feel a bit "forced", or overly complex. Anyway, that's just my opinion.

I've selected my favorite tracks and ordered them to make an alternative LP.

Side A (22:32)
1. World Gone Crazy (5:06)
2. Blinded (7:52)
3. Evolution (4:50)
4. The Big Funk (4:44)

Side B (21:10)
1. Revolution (6:03)
2. The Soldier (5:26)
3. Letter (2:26)
4. Funeral Pyres (7:15)

Total Time 43:42

As you can see, half of the double-album is gone, but this now feels more concise and powerful to me. Also, it would fit on a single vinyl LP (even if I don't really care about that)... Tongue

Arrived today from Laser's Edge, 3-LP/2-CD, lyric booklet set all housed in a nice slipbox case. As usual, TFK create a very nice presentation.
Looking forward to diving into this one over the next few days.....(more Flower Kings please!) Clap

In the past couple years I have not ordered from Roine direct as the postage is cra-cra from across the pond. I always wait for Laser's Edge to post it, much more reasonable. Same thing I did with Marillion new album, ordering from marillion.com was gonna be like US$70 for the LP version, nuts. I bought it from The InGroove in Phoenix for $35 delvd no sales tax...
I think the lag time in "release date" is because of how long shipping takes from European pressing plants (CD and LP) to the US/Canada.
I'm in no rush either.....I've had mine on pre-order since announcement.

^ Simpler than usual for TFK.

Not overly happy with it. "The Great Pretender" is a tad better.

New song.

I kinda like it. It sorta reminds me of the Space Revolver era TFK.

I'm still waiting for them to blow me away like they used to.  Last album that did that for me was Sum, and the ones since have been more or less disappointing to me, though I have found things to like about all of them.  Islands was, IMO, the best they have done since Sum, but still not nearly at that level or the level of any of the stuff before Sum (with a couple exceptions that people here likely know if they've read my comments here over the years).

Still, I look forward to each new album and none of them have been out right bad for me, all are at least decent to good.  It's not like I want them to do another Stardust or Flower Power...........well, actually, yes, I do, lol.  I do like that they've "progressed" over the years and that they continue to do their thing.  I just find I'm not as impressed or moved by their music as I was in the 90's and early 2000's.  Just my feelings about it, and certainly not a judgement about musicianship (which is always stellar) or production values (always stellar) or even the writing.  Though I guess that last is where I'm struggling to enjoy them as much, but it's more than that.  I feel like the magic is gone, or at least changed, and it just doesn't hit me like it used to.

In any event, I'll listen to the new one with an open mind and probably enjoy it for the most part.  We'll see.  I'm still a fan, regardless, and I don't think I'll ever get tired of hearing Roine's guitar solos.
We are on the same page, for me TFK are an auto-buy as I always find more than enough material in their big albums to like a lot. I have to invest a lot of time to sit and soak in a Flower Kings album of late, usually 3-LPs, six sides of music and so I have to allocate that time.
When I do that my senses are wide open and I'm not working, playing on my stoopid iPhone or 'puter work but just listening. Not much of late I have gone WOW!!! Like on Sum, A&E and of course Stardust, seems that chemistry of music making has disappeared for them. The musicianship saves it for me, stellar and yes the production is always top notch and the vocal collaborations are excellent, the album packaging helps a lot too, at least for me since I only do LPs, big a$$ gatefold covers are super nice.
I've not been following much on the lyrics of late, I do initially follow along on my first spins but usually I don't pay much attention afterwards, not sure that's appropriate.

I have totally lost interest in for example Dream Theater, I have no desire to buy their albums anymore. But I keep buying The Flower Kings records, so something jives with me and them. Clap

Pretty good track, but weird opening track. It's the first track of the double album.

Yea I heard it the other day, I think it's a great song. Love the drumming and both vocal performances, Roine's guitar sounds nice as well.

I've already pre-ordered the 3-LP/2CD box set.
