We had a local beer fest at out fair grounds in town and over 40 micro brew vendors showed up....too many beers to recall but one I really liked was a vanilla blueberry porter that one of the groups made just for the event.

Doing my duty and supporting local businesses..... A cross between a Porter and a Stout.....lots of chocolate and coffee notes but a bit more carbonated than I'd like. Still, no one here is complaining as a nice buzz has dropped

^ Yeah, they are overpriced compared to the big dogs....but I think its cool that some people will pay higher prices to get a little culture and mood with their goods. I hope they never completely vanish. Everything about the modern retail experience is so soulless and uninteresting...same chains, same cookie cutter storefronts no matter where you are.

I suppose we still have them because Groceries can't sell here...except 3.2. We still have tons of little neighborhood liquor stores than look like they are straight out of a 40s movie....I love shopping in there and talking to the old guys. |
We used to have quite a few; a convenient place for basic groceries, late night booze, food and ciggie emergencies, and the occasional meat & cheese sub. Only a handful still exist. As you say, they have the old-school feel (and in SF, beautiful Italian tile work adorning the outside). They are generally overpriced and often don't have one's preference but they will be sorely missed when gone, I'm sure.

yeah... we don't have those. I agree with your sentiments however. We practice that religiously when it comes to eating out. Rarely if ever eat at chain restaurants.. mom and pop local restaurants is where it is at. If we had them here I'd sure support them

Little guys? We don't have much in the way of little guys here in Virginia Jim. You get your beers at the large corporate Grocery stores, the neighborhood corporate convience stores like 7-11, or do the Total Wine. I spread the wealth and do all 3 I suppose. yeah.. Bourbon Ales are not for the weak I suppose. Of liver or constitutions/metabolisms. They hit hard..

You have Total Wine out there? Do you feel like an a****le when you shop there? I can't get past the feeling I'm killing the little guys by going there....so I rarely do Bourbon ales....oof....good stuff but they just kill me...I"ve had to throw in the towel and admit my liver is too weak to handle them

Hmmm haven't seen it before at the place by my house....but If I make a trip to the evil corporate Total Wine superstore, I'm sure they'll have it.
They have every beer and wine ever created....the only problem is they put the little mom and pop stores out of business with the dirt cheap prices. I feel like a complete a****le every time I go there...but the selection is amazing

funny,.. I recently found the only IPA I like... and it took some of that frou frou berry flavoring to get me to like it. I liked it, yet hated it at the same time.

It's not TOO bad actually....New Belgium doesn't make crappy beers....but that citrus thing....any fruit thing....just shouldn't be in beer. I give my friends endless sh*t when they drink those godawful berry infused beers....yuck

^ secret?? what fun would it have been to have been secret.
Though those years were a helluva lot of fun it did have one down side .. it forever scotched the notion of me getting into politics. I know a certain ex of mine, one not particularly well disposed to me.. have videotape of some of my more... hard to believe exploits. Especially in my infamous little black dress. I remember a friend videotaped me at a karaoke bar, in drag.. drunk off my ass.. falling off the stage doing an off key version of You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman. I know he had to have caught the standing ovation I got from the crowd of.. what was it.. like 300 people there. I wonder if that would surface if I ever ran for political office? hmmm..
Perhaps those tapes might get me the votes of the more progressive minded set.. as well as the power drinkers and freaks of modern chemistry... but likely wouldn't do much to get the votes of the Ward and June Cleaver set...
