I know people often quote the mission of the site as being the ultimate "prog resource", but are we honestly losing any credibility by not having Dire Straits listed here, despite even a single album's possible prog credentials?  With the full discog rule I think such things ultimately create too many headaches.  And I think prog-related has gotten beyond the scope of its intention anyway, mostly because there's disgareement on what purpose it should serve in the first place.

Was it instrumentally acceptable though? You may need to try different Krautrock.

As far as Dire Straits goes, I do support their addition to Prog Related strictly based on Love Over Gold and a few other proggy moments scattered throughout their discography, however, I won't lose any sleep over it if they are rejected.

My next project will have music I wrote almost seven years ago, never really wrote down, but still have remembered all this time, which means I must really like it.  LOL

There will only be three songs this time around- one long one followed by two half-long ones.  I'm doing the "Yes" thing. LOL

That fierce Straits battle in the suggestion area inspired me to give them a listen today. I forgot them and their On the Night live album when answering the 5 albums that changed your life thingy. Straits acted very much as the gateway from metal/punk to distortionless music, which I credited to Absoluuttinen Nollapiste in the thread.

I'm actually not too familiar with Dire Straits, but I have enjoyed reading that thread. There were some interesting points brought up.

Dire Straits is amazing.  "Sultans of Swing" was the first song I played and sang in front of a crowd.

But prog though?  Come on... Ermm

I agree that I don't really think they're prog, but the suggestion was for prog-related, and I entirely agree with some of the points that Roblov was bringing to the table. I thought he argued his point very well.

Prog, prog-related...no.  Dire Straits is neither, with all due respect to Rob.  And I love Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits.

I would never lobby for them to be included in prog-related; I just said that he argued his point very well.

I'm not really too particular on whether they should or shouldn't be added to prog-related. Doesn't really matter to me, and I'm not familiar enough with them to say for sure.

I honestly have no idea if it will, and it may make things more complicated. LOL

I suppose that's the price I pay for doing something completely original. Wink

I'm so glad it's summer.

I'm starting to get really excited about COAM's new album. I mean, I absolutely loved my In/Ex Anima concept series, but now I'm starting to feel that this next one could be the breakthrough album that I've been wanting---hopefully gaining more exposure as well. If everything continues to go the way it has been, it will be the first album of mine that I rate a perfect 10 (as opposed to somewhere in the high 9.something's Tongue).

Definitely. Not sure which era I prefer anymore. I used to like Deadwing the most, but over time my tastes switched again on my album preferences. Now I just say they're all pretty good, which is true for the most part.

I haven't listened to that in a while. My tastes are kinda changing lately... well, not so much changing, but making a cycle. I haven't been in the mood to listen to PT, and I don't think I will be for a while.

Do check out Neu!, I think you will really enjoy them.  Lot of atmospherics.

It's odd - you're not that into krautrock yet, but your band has a ton of krautrock influence to my ears.

Yeah, I never realized that... especially when I was composing In Anima and most of Ex Anima, I was practically not familiar with Krautrock almost at ALL. But now that I'm becoming more familiar with it, I can see some similarities.

When I'm composing I try to do something completely new, so it may even be possible that my direct influences are nil.

As for Can: Check out Ege Bamyasi. It's much better, IMO, and shorter so that it's easier to digest. Keep trying on Tago though; give it a break for like 5 months. That's what I did.

And I shall definitely check out Neu! after ADII and Can, I'm thinking.

Awesome. I'll definitely have to do that.

Which Can album(s) have you heard? Just Tago? I love Tago now, but it is too overlong for its own good.
