Part of what really seals the deal for me with The Hazards of Love are the lyrics and the story:
"The Rake's Song" for instance is all about a guy who gets married to have sex, but his damned wife keeps having all these babies. Finally, the fourth one kills her in childbirth.
So he's a widower with "three little pests" so he decides to murder them all.

I'll have to hear it again, but the concept didn't really attract me much.

I keep thinking of The Hounds of Love but I add the annoying hooter from The Dukes of Hazzard on the end.

Guys plural?
Alex and I love First Utterance.
It's one of my favourite albums of all time.
|
Oh, sorry. I thought Alex hated it too. I misread his last post.

If anything, I think Bobbie Watson's voice is just a little too warbly.

No, he was generous; I saw a 1-star review right before it.

| It's much too weird for me, overall, and grating.
If only Bobbie had sung, that might have improved it to my ears, but then it wouldn't be what it is (for those of you who love it), would it?

Well, we certainly wouldn't want my well thought out and honest opinions to result in the destruction of property, now would we?
|
It's not you mate. It's just my mood. I'm really negative at the moment and the slightest of things can tip the balance.
So reading even a well thought out and honest (yet negative) review about one of my favourite albums of all time, may not help.
| Damn. I can't say I know how you specifically feel, but I can tell you this week ranks as the crappiest week of this year for me. Sorry things are going the way they are for you.
