When's the last time you saw a corpse complaining of cancer? How many dead children ever came up to you begging for food? |
You need to watch the History Channel program "Life After People". |
History Channel. Program about the future.

Has anyone used MP3Sparks.com? Is this a legal download site or an illegal torrents site? They have Tomas Bodin's latest album for sale for $1.92 and I am thinking of buying it if it is a legal site. |
I have no idea if it's legal or not. If it is though, go for it! That's a fantastic price.

I went to elementary school with my doctor and he is one of my best friends, and this is exactly what he tells me when I see him. Fortunately, he won't take my money for this analysis.

Hodgkins is a cancer that chemotherapy has proven to be effective on. This isn't the first time that I have seen it said that Hodgkins patients have a high survival rate.

But that's it, I've said what I've needed to now.
How is Russian Circles, Raff, have you heard it yet?

I didn't follow your discussion, but I can tell you one thing: having lost my mother and other people close to me to cancer, I tend to agree with Alex. What I really think is that most doctors don't have a clue, and will use people as guinea pigs because they know most people are ready to do anything just in order to survive. I am quite sure many die not because of the cancer, but because of the effects of treatment or surgery.

Cancer is obviously something different, but the same principle applies to everything. If someone knows they have cancer, they will be more apt to die from it than someone who doesn't because of mental outlook.
|
That's where I disagree with what you're saying. I do agree that some parents are f**king morons and do deserve what's coming to them as well as that the government can't tell them how to raise their kids, but saying that someone who doesn't know they have cancer is going to do better than someone who does have cancer? I'd think most people would prefer to know that they have it and about possible treatment option.

Read Neil Peart's Ghost Rider book and then tell me that people's outlooks can't affect survival rates. I would rather not know.

That's understandable.

In many instances I agree with this. I don't think that the government should be able to tell me that I have to wear a seatbelt. If I am dumb enough to take the chance of being thrown out my windshield I should be allowed to. Same goes with motorcycle helmets. But again I am an adult and I should be able to make that decision on my own. On the other hand, I shouldn't be able to allow my child sit in the front seat without a seatbelt on because I am an idiot. That is child endangerment. |
It's not that I don't see the other side of the argument, it's just that it becomes really subjective and hard to pick out each individual case when it comes to child endangerment. I clearly think the sunburn thing is ridiculous, much more so than the cancer case. I think seatbelts are a tricky issue because that's a matter of life and death in certain emergencies---and I think if an adult doesn't want to wear one, fine. Having a child properly strapped in a seat though is a good thing. If chemotherapy was better, I'd feel much more confident in that... but it still doesn't seem right to me to force parents to have a child evaluated for taking chemo purely based on the subjective opinion of someone else. They say whether it'll be necessary or not, and then the parents HAVE to oblige, and that doesn't seem right. It's much more common sense that a child could die in a car accident, and it's a different scenario.

Anyway, today I'm happy, so I'd rather stop talking about such depressing subjects. I did some shopping, and got four CDs at a secondhand place in Arlington. One of them is Russian Circles' Station, which I think was highly recommended by the Post-Rock team.

But some people are f**king morons.
|
So instead of educating people and allowing them to make informed decisions, we're forcing them to make decisions?
|
"Your son has a 90% chance of survival if we perform chemotherapy. He has a 5% chance of survival if he believes in God and eats fruits and nuts." What do you decide? I'll take the 5% moron option please. I am quite certain that the doctors and social services are stepping in and bringing this to court for just this reason.
You'll find that this also happens to adult children whose parents have alzheimer's. The government and social services will also step in to help assist you with making the right decisions and if you choose not to make the right decisions their will be consequences.
