Return to Ommadawn is already stepping down on the ratings of this year. I have really enjoyed that one a lot, and has grown with repeated listenings. I have heard only once on streaming grimspound, but so far I would say I liked Return to Ommadawn much more (a really worthy of Oldfield's old 70's masterpieces). Still, I have heard very little music from this year to be able to say this is my favourite album so far this year.

Respected. Minority opinion though by the looks of it.

It seems to me that the last album is the most uninteresting in the history of the band |

Grimspound is a serious candidate to top my 2017 list. Surely the best they did since EE1.
My favourite track so far is Brave Captain, but On the Racing Line, Experimental Gentlemen and A Mead Hall in Winter might still take this place after some more listens.

A Mead Hall In Winter is my personal favourite.
Those little hook melodies are just so addictive. Right up there with the best they've done and that's saying something. |

It's taken a few listens to establish it, but my favourite song from Grimspound atm is the title track. I love that acapella section at the end.

Grimspound has entered the UK Albums Chart at No 45, No 11 in the Vinyl Chart and No 1 in the Rock and Metal Chart.
Brilliant news. This is on the album and is quite gorgeous. |

The new album Grimspound just went on preorder. I got the CD. There are some limited edition, opaque vinyl among other goodies. I'm looking forward to the added composition power of ex-Beardfish keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist Rikard Sjöblom.

I'm not sure how easy any of the pre-Longdon albums are to get these days, but anything from The Underfall Yard (2009) onwards is very much worth your time.

I've heard a lot about them but don't know them. What are some good albums to start with?

Surprised this hasn't been posted here yet, well over 24 hours after it was announced: The tracklist for Grimspound was revealed yesterday.
1. Brave Captain 2. On the Racing Line 3. Experimental Gentlemen 4. Meadowland 5. Grimspound 6. The Ivy Gate 7. A Mead Hall in Winter 8. As the Crow Flies

I bit the bullet and bought the DVD Stone And Steel. My wife and I loved it. It was a nice way to get to know the band. The performances were primo.

Everything since "The Underfall Yard" is compulsatory, if you dig Big Big Train as much as I do.
