Published in the year 2005 by the Musea label, the quartet's first album is a real and fascinating surprise. Except one title sung in Spanish, the opus is entirely instrumental, displaying a music at the crossroads between sophisticated rock ala RADIOHEAD and Seventies Progressive rock. One could think of the successful mixture created by the French group MONOCEROS. On the edge of Gothic, this melancholic music provides new sensations through eleven pieces from various lenghts. Label info: EAST WIND POT is a current Japanese band, led by keyboards player Yuko
TSUCHIYA, former member of the Progressive rock group THETA. One can
also find a drummer, a bass player and woodwinds (Saxophone,
clarinet...). Jointly published by the Musea and poseidon labels, the
eponymous album (2006) displays a subtle blend of aerial jazz and
jazz-rock, with Progressive rock hints on some keyboards parts. Composed
by Yuko TSUCHIYA, these six instrumental pieces are often based on a
dialogue between woodwinds and organ or synthesizers parts, and in a
vein near WEATHER REPORT, BRAND X and sometimes Chick COREA for the
keyboards work. Very melodious and suggestive, with dynamic drumming,
this piece of art is just amazing !

Label info: Together with his twin brother Thierry, Jean-Luc PAYSSAN was a
co-founder of MINIMUM VITAL, more than twenty years ago. This band from
the Bordeaux area has become popular among Progressive rock connoisseurs
especially, as it took part in the movement's revival by the end of the
Eighties. It also initiated a new musical language, somewhere between
jazz-rock, Progressive rock and medieval music. The first solo album of
Jean-Luc PAYSSAN is not that of a solitary man: Thierry's keyboards and
Sonia NEDELEC's voice are here, as well as Bernard MILON's violin. The
Master of Ceremonies offers in turn beautiful acoustic or nylon guitar
parts. But not only: he also plays unusual instruments such as theorbo,
ciste, mandolin, mandole and some percussions... These fourteen short
and intimist pieces unveil melodies with an absolute splendour, music of
total purity, both timeless and personal. Unlike most guitarists'
albums, too frequently complacent and demonstrative, the artist here
shows a perfect humility, while proving to be an outstanding
instrumentist and composer, with an astonishing culture. No song sounds
like another one here, both in its arrangements and inspiration. An
absolute eclecticism serving a simply marvellous music: a fountain of
purity !

Label info: As far as Progressive rock is concerned, the South American school is
renowned for its refinement and its great symphonic flights of fancy.
Although Brazil and Argentina have been quite logically the most
important providers of different artists, the Chilean stage should not
be neglected however. The Mylodon label has endeavoured to show this
since several years yet. Its latest discovery is named BANDHADA. The
musicians of that band joined in 1982, sharing a common passion for
CAMEL, CARAVAN or Pat METHENY. They recorded only one self-titled album
little time afterwards, a brilliant compendium of Progressive rock and
fusion jazz-rock. This little masterpiece is jointly reissued by the
Musea label today, enhanced with two live tracks, dating from 1984.

Label info: Jan DUMEE is no-one but the guitarist of the Dutch Progressive rock
legend FOCUS, since its reforming at the beginning of the New
Millennium. Our man had taken the opportunity to demonstrate his
extraordinary skills with their album "8" (2003), proving that he stands
much higher than a mere stand-in for Jan AKKERMAN. Of course, both
guitarists share a rather similar style, both lyrical and technical.
Quite like his glorious elder, Jan DUMEE also claims a great influence
from the jazz-rock fusion scene. What characterizes him is however his
immoderate attraction for Brazilian music. Besides, he happened to play
within serveral South-American bands. All these elements are present in
"Rio On The Rocks", his first solo album recorded in Brazil in 2005, and
released both by the Musea and Rock Symphony labels. Among the
musicians is the cream of Rio De Janeiro's scene, playing mainly
instrumental material. Impossible not to remember FOCUS sometimes, even
if samba or jazz are always sensible. To be discovered !

Label info: LU7 is the name of a current Japanese Progressive rock band, centered
around the charming Luna UMEGAKI's keyboards, and around virtuoso
Tsutomu KURIHARA's guitar. Let's also note the guest appearances of

and male vocalists, a violinist, a bagpipe player... The duet defines
its ambition: "We try to create the imaginative sound, which can make
you feel various views and colours.". Published as a joint-venture by
the Poseidon and Musea labels, the second album "L'Exprit De L'Exil"
(2004) is a real revelation in the instrumental Progressive jazz-rock
field, as it's full of qualities no so common in this genre. No question
of cliches, coldness or sterile virtuosity here: the density of the
seven pieces (Mostly instrumental) is impressive, as are the splendid
melodies and the diversity of the atmospheres, from happiness to
melancholia. Musically speaking, the listener is free to imagine what an
desinhibited Allan HOLDSWORTH could have composed, when discovering
celtic or arabic music. A tasteful menu, isn't it ?
Label info: The first album "Efflorescence" (2002) had only been available through
Internet until the Poseidon label got involved. After the successful
"L'Esprit De L'Exil", it eventually gains a proper CD release today. The
listener will recognize that the style is the same, and if he is keen
on Eighties American jazz-rock (Featuring guitarists such as Pat METHENY
and Lee RITENOUR), he will certainly be delighted ! Now we can be sure
to count on LU7 for the future...

It's not actually quite in release order, as Musea haven't steadily followed their catalogue numbers when releasing new albums. But it does follow the catalogue numbers.
Those who'd like to see the list in alphabetical order - copy an paste it into an excel sheet. Then it'll be in alphabetical order in two seconds.

Label info: TRIO 96 is the misleading name of a current Japanese Progressive
jazz-rock band, alternatively existing as a quartet and as a duo ! Truly
different from the rest, its music owes as much to free-jazz as to the
Canterbury School or works by Frank ZAPPA. The result is instrumental
tracks both dense and energic, based on semi-improvisations and
performed by virtuosos. Let's give a special award to a real frenetic
drummer. "Quartet 1999" leads the listened to wild musical landscapes,
with nervous and tense guitar chords, frantic rhythms and astounding
saxophone parts. Recorded four years later by the guitar player and the
drummer alone (The same line-up as Larry CORYELL's at the end of the
Sixties),
Label info: "Duo 2003" appears to be less frantic but still experimental, sometimes
reminding the KING CRIMSON's Eighties period. A special care has been
given to guitar chord sounds and percussive drumming, lifting this disc

Label info: Wolf HOELLER has been the keyboardist and composer of the famous French
Progressive rock band LA ROSSA, which only album "A Fury Of Glass"
(1983) has been reissued by the Musea label some years ago. "To Be..."
(2003) is the name of a joint-venture between the German musician and
Jean-Pascal BOFFO, famous French guitar player and sound engineer. With
the assistance of Hervé ROUYER (ANGE drummer), WOLF creates eleven
pop-rock songs displaying a wide range of influences and inspirations.
It includes celtic music, neo Progressive, blues and many others, from
Mike OLDFIELD to THE WATERBOYS. With very intense vocals, somewhere
between David BOWIE and Robert PLANT, he proves his ability to sing and
play straightforward rock music. Violin and bagpipes parts are just
brilliant, and all the musicians more than perfect. This album is an
excellent surprise !
Label info: IGZIT-NINE is a current Japanese band, inspired by the best anglo-saxon
Progressive jazz-rock school. It is formed by two former members of
BRAIN SALAD, Noboru INOUE (Guitar, keyboards & percussions) and Emi
HATSUSAKA (Keyboards & percussions). The rythmic section that
appears on the first eponymous album has then left the group, replaced
by that of SIX NORTH ! An obvious evidence of the musical style chosen,
without even mentioning musical quality ! Recorded in the year 2003 on
the Poseidon label (Distributed by Musea outside of Japan), this
masterpiece is performed by real virtuosos, that are also true melody
lovers. There is no acrobatic musical exercises to fear here ! Here are
eight instrumental titles, dense and carefully written, linked at the
speed of light. In the same vein as the best SIDE STEPS, IGZIT-NINE
unites melodic sense and musical dynamism, with a feeling not unlike
YES'. No doubt about it, KENSO is no longer the one and only king of the
national scene !

Philippe CAUVIN's works. The leader of the atypic Progressive rock group
UPPSALA has reinvented his beloved instrument, the classical guitar,

delightful mix of middle-aged songs and current hymns. This is a
strange mix of classic language, church prayers and vanguard rock.
Philippe CAUVIN has one more thing playing for him: his voice. An almost
woman-like singing, displaying weird imaginary words, which has
apparently been made for us to dream. "Memento" goes one step beyond the first album, in the realm of
"spiritual" music. It showcases an ambitious epic composition, a 20
minute-suite for classical guitar, percussions and voices. Several
unreleased tracks are present here, recorded in 1980, 1989 and 1996.

know that the influences of AUSIA include at the same time some medieval
music, some renaissance ideas, some traditional Japanese musics, some
Anglo-Saxon acoustic folk, some experiments inherited from Progressive
rock, jazz... The flute is energetic while surprising, the violin is

Label info: ADACHI KYODAI is the name of a duet made of two brothers, Ryusuke
(Guitars) and Source K. ADACHI (Guitars & vocals). As influenced by
John McLAUGHLIN and Al Di MEOLA as by JETHRO TULL and KING CRIMSON,
those skilled musicians have played with international stars such as
Elton DEAN (GONG). After a first album called "Blood And Instinct",
those two Japanese musicians issue once again an album, this time
eponymous and co-produced in 2003 by the Musea and Poseidon labels. We
can then find here twelve concise and mainly instrumental tracks, some
original compositions and some covers arranged for two guitars (KING
CRIMSON's "I Talk To The Wind" as well as JETHRO TULL's "Mother Goose"
and "Cheap Day Return"). ADACHI KYODAI are two acoustic guitar
prodigies, full of energy, feeling and innovative musical ideas,
especially in the strings dialogue and in the rhythmic work. At the end
of the day, we have quite a good album, gifted with a high level of

(2005). The principle remains the same, the presentation still as
refined as it used to be. On the menu, eight original compositions, two

obviously the ADACHI KYODAI taste. Here are the ingredients: two
