I buy them because I can't bear not to.
But the bits and pieces nature of them does make me resent that they charge full price, plus their bloated shipping fee for them.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

I received my copy of Joe's Camouflage today.
I haven't quite gotten through the whole album yet, but here are some thoughts:

It may be the best of the Joe's series.
The sound quality is decent, considering it was recorded on cassette originally, although "Honey, Don't You Want A Man Like Me?" is an awful recording.

"T'Mershi Duween" sounds very different.  "Sleep Dirt" also sounds different played by a full band.
"Any Downers" at that point was just one riff played incessantly.

To a Zappahead like myself it is a treat.
Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

I just got back into Zappa recently, forgot how incredible this dude is. Think I might pick up that Uncle Meat vinyl reissue. Does anyone know if any of his other stuff will be reissued on wax?

Here's some pics of it. Sorry about the low quality, this is the only camera I haveawesome booklet! Includes sheet music of King Kong and Uncle MeatAlso, here's an 09 reissue of Trout Mask Replica on Zappa's very own Straight label

I also am happy to own a mint original 'Uncle Meat' (with side 1 & 4 together, and side 2 & 3 together) though unfortunately no accompanying booklet

New Jersey is brought up in The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing.

NJ seems to come up a bunch during Thing-Fish.

Hmm...interesting.

Still need to hear opinions...nothing here jumps out to me as essential. (Though nothing necessarily jumps out as crap)

I honestly can't remember what albums/shows that NJ is referenced. Doing the chronological run, you notice a lot of little details in the music or the dialogue. I noticed the NJ references, but only now did I bring it up, since I'm up to 1984 era of Zappa, and NJ references keep coming up. But I haven't returned to any albums or shows, I just keep forging on, so I can't recall where else it's mentioned.

What I can remember off the top of my head:

The Berkeley performance 1984 - Frank makes a joke about New Jersey.

Just Another Band From L.A. - In Billy The Mountain, Flo and Eddie mention "Atlantic City, NEW JOISEEYYY!!!"

Halloween - recorded in Pasaic, New Jersey, I think Frank makes a wise crack about the state.

I want to say one of the late 70s albums mentions NJ, but I can't recall.

Why does Frank make fun of NJ as often as he did? I know NJ is a laughing stock because everyone thinks the state is just Elizabeth, NJ with its factories and bad smells, or Atlantic City, but is there any particular reason Frank mentions NJ throughout his career?
What are some examples of his references to New Jersey?  I'm drawing a blank.

Them Or Us would be a more enjoyable album if the album had some PUNCH to it, at least during the hard rocking parts.
Stevie's Spanking and Sinister Footwear II sound so weak, especially compared to the 88 band version on MAJNH.

Finally got around to continue the Zappa-thon. Remembering how dissonant London Symphony Orchestra is, as I'm listening to the album, I'm noticing all the pretty and uplifting moments there are. I had similar experiences with Zappa's synclavier work. The music hits you as a barrage of anxious, dissonant, nervous music, and a lot of it is.But repeated listens (and plenty of time since the last time I listened to LSO) reveals deeper moments of beauty. LSO isn't one of those albums you can listen to while driving, you need to be alone, with no distractions. But I was so not ready to continue on, but I'm glad I did. Only Frank Zappa could have made this music.

It doesn't matter, because the album everyone's really been waiting for is coming out... Joe's Camouflage

I'm a litle hesitant to order Camouflage, but I must.

Not RBP is now Feb 14, or February Fools' Day.

Please report back on it.

These Joe's -age series is a bit much for me to just blindly buy.
