I'm totally with you on that. I've been using PCs for what is it? Holy crap twenty years at least. My experience is that they change things but never really improve things too much and make some things worse. (I started with DOS non Windows) I can't deny that there haven't been improvements, but...

Oh, yes, How DARE the average joe be able to actually get his money's worth when buying a home computer? I want my products to work perfectly (or as perfectly as possible) right out of the box, thanks. And if that makes me somehow inferior to you, then I honestly don't care. I have better things to do with my life than learn the ins and outs of computers. I just want them to work, and Macs work best for me.
I'm not dumb just because I prefer to use Macs. And you're not smart because you use Linux. It's preference, alrighty? |
Touchy tonight aren't we?
All operating systems work perfectly out of the box and for 90% of all users there really isn't an issue - if you are that bothered by whether OS X is better or worse than Windows or Linux then you are already elevated above dumb onto some smarter plane of existence since you would evidently be aware that there is such a thing as an operating system and that it is far more capable than simply browsing the interwebs, playing games and sending emails. At surface level all these operating systems are exactly the same - they all do the same things in essentially the same intuitive way to achieve exactly the same outcome - it's only when you delve deeper, (or have to delve deeper I should say), do you find that there are differences and these differenced determine what you can do, what you are allowed to do and how easy it is to do it. What Microsoft and Apple have done is actually made the OS more complcated that it practically needs to be, so that when (not if) Joe Public busts it it is exponentially harder to fix, and that makes my life harder and more complicated than it needs to be.
okay?

I would say that most people who use Linux use it on PCs.
I was just arguing for the sake of it, bro. Don't take me seriously.

I know Linux is an OS...duh! |
Good to know.
Start your own poll if you don't like the question. |
Kiss my ass, Snow Dog. You made an assumption about the hardware someone was using based on what OS he said he liked. I was simply pointing out something I thought should have been obvious, that Linux =/= PC. He most likely does run it on a PC, but since this poll is using hardware terms rather than OS terms, it makes it harder to distinguish.

Macs run Linux too, so no, not 'PC, then'. Linux is an operating system, not a brand of computer.
I think that should have been the poll question. ''Windows, OS X, or other''. Less confusion.
Anyway, I'm an OS X user. People who think it sucks obviously haven't used it within the past few years. It really has grown leaps and bounds beyond anything Windows has done. |
Macs can run Linux, but invariably don't, and why should they when OS X is built on a Unix foundation just as Linux is? (Well, dozens of reasons, all of them called Apple)
The bottom line is if you're using a Mac you're most probably using OS X and you're on a PC your most likely to be using Windoze but if you're using Linux you are more likely to be using a PC than a Mac.
I could also point out that Windoze has also grown in the same time and Linux is so polished and professional now you would wonder why anyone ever pays for an O/S anymore.
I don't like OS X because I don't like the direction it has taken operating systems in, in the same way I don't like the same dumbing-down route that Vista and Win7 has also taken. ("I'm a computer illiterate kindergarten teacher and Windows 7 was my idea *sickly innane grin*"). Don't make computer's simpler - make people smarter! |
