And Jesus said unto John, "come forth and receive eternal life..."
Unfortunately, John came fifth and was stuck with a toaster.

"Yes, Matti -- I have most of Siberry's albums, and even met her once. I talked to her one-on-one for about 10 minutes, around the time of her 2nd album. She's very original, a good writer, a fine singer, and a terrific person -- very easy to talk to."
That's interesting, Peter. Can you remember what you talked about?
It seems that female singer-songwriters prefer to have a solo career than to be a singer-songwriter in a band. And ladies in music are either very creative or just a singer-idols in the commercial business. That's one reason ladies are quite few in prog, and solo careers - think of Kate Bush - are seldom categorized as prog anyway.

Of your selections, it's Suzanne Vega all the way...
I might have included Nina Persson of The Cardigans and Shakespear's Sister

Hello,
- Christina Booth-Murphy (Magenta)
Heather Findlay (Mostly Autumn) Tracy Hitchings (Landmarq) &n bsp; &n bsp; Suzie Bogdanowicz (Glasshammer) Rachel Jones (ex-Karnataka); Because they're lovely, sing great lines on the proggy hit single of 2005: "All around the World" / ProgAID and are my favourites of the last decade...
- Annie Haslma and
Kate Bush: Because I think that the previous named ladies are fan of them ;-)
- Claire Torry, Sam Brown, Durga McBroom, Rachel Fury, Magaret Taylor, Claudia Fontaine, Carol Kenyon, Michelle Carol; Because they all did the "Great Gig In The Sky" / Pink Floyd.
- Sharon den Adel, Amy Lee, Floor Janssen, Simone Simons, Anneke van Griesbergen, the sisters Kleman; Because they're all Dutch, gifted with an golden voice and nice to watch.
- Tori Amos, Joanna Hogg (Iona), Suzanna Melvoin (Prince, Roger Waters and... ), Sheryl Crow, Heather Nova, Sarah McLachlan, Anne Marie Helder, Carly Simon because they're really good looking and have made nice music...
- Nico, Janis Joplin, Billy Holiday, Kirsty MacColl, Linda McCartney, Cassie Canes, Sandy Denny and all i've forgotten; because they were great, hope their music sound forever.

Joni Mitchell is at the top of my list, highly creative and willing to explore new frontiers.
Followed by:
Aretha Franklin, because her voice is inspirational.
Carole King (early seventies), because my girlfriend liked her a lot and I have great memories of us together.
The Wilson sisters (Heart), because they rock with feeling.
Kate Pearson and Cindy Wilson (B-52's), because their a lot of fun.

I also quite like Kate Bush.
Outside prog or near prog, I'm a big fan of Lucinda Williams, Annie Lennox, Joan Armatrading, Maddy Prior, and many others.
Oh yeah: Joni Mitchell, Suzanne Vega, Tracy Chapman, and Beth Orton too.
Lots in the realm of trad/Celtic.
The list goes on....
