Sir Riviere - that doesn't have a nice ringing to it, so I'll call you Sir Tony (if I don't forget to).

I always use my real name as my username, sometimes with the first letter of my last name attached (usually only because 'angelo' is already in use). As a result - people call me by my name, which I like best.

BTW, "Sir" is pronounced similarly to "ser" in Polish which means "cheese". Wink

Re: by pet name. Calling me with my cat's name would be a little confusing. I think one Micky is enough. Wink

As You wish Sir. Wink

Well, I'm called with various forms of my nickname and first name: Tuzvihar, Tuzi, Tuz, Bartlomiej, Bartek, Bart, etc. From these I like Tuz and Bartek the most.

That's how I feel too; it depends on who's addressing me and how deep of a relationship we have.

I can understand that.  Sometimes I'm a  little uncomfortable using real names when I don't know a person well.  From your user-name, what do you prefer, the full one (but that sounds awkward to me), MovingPictures, MP, MP07, MoP....?  I used to prefer reserving my real-name for people that I felt I'd developed an understanding with based on mutual sympathy -- people who you feel closer to and relate to/ can speak on a personal level with.

MP is fine if you want to use an abbreviation, but anyone is free to call me Alex and I'm fine with it. I've talked to you on enough occasions, Greg, that it's definitely comfortable. Either way is completely acceptable.

The only complication is that if someone knows me really well, then I almost prefer them to call me Alex, rather than just MP or Moving Pictures.

That's for real!!!??? Tarkus would be an amazing name for a pet ( or a childLOL)

I suppose I d like to be called by my name instead of my user name. Specially since it's not a very original one

Anyway, just like Greg (though not for military reasons), I hate being called by my surname, unless it's in a friendly manner

But your last name is so welcoming... Tongue

I've edited the options a bit.  I don't really mind if I'm being Logan or Greg or Logz or sLo-gun or Log-In, or Gegs or Gorio or Gregory etc.  In real life, I have an aversion to being called my my last name (I went off that during my fairly short time in the military) and don't like being called Mister, or Sir.... That bugs me.  What I don't like is being referred to in the third-person when I'm around, or, as happened at the forums once, "some guy."  I guess it was forgotten who said it, but I would have been easy to check, and I do like the personal-touch.

I used to associate myself so much with the user-name Logan that it felt odd if people called me Greg, but now I prefer to be called Greg.  Some here will be called by first name, user-name, and by some other nickname (the nickname often being based on the user name).  Some prefer to keep even their first name hidden, and don't add it to the profile.  In some cases I've greeted someone by the real given name, and people have been surprised that I knew it (it was in the profile, but they did not know that was public).

I like the more personal touch of real names.  It can feel awkward when I call someone by a username that doesn't even sound like a name, particularly -- might be a combination of words, and then with no real name given one is apt to abbreviate it.  So "I_dig_intellectual_old_tracks" becomes "Idiot".  Hi Idiot, welcome aboard, you've come to the right place!

Of course the username alone provides more anonymity (and is sometimes suggested for security reasons), and I'm not comfortable giving out my full name to the public.

Do you prefer being known by your real name, and do you prefer to call others by real name?

Don't care for either one. Usually people call me by my first name... I hate it, but who's asking me?LOL I wish I had a cool nickname, but thinking of one requires brain cells.
