EDIT: Oops, I thought this was the band Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start
Wow, ANOTHER band that appears to use video game code in their name? Odd!
I must go see which band came out first to see who ripped off who. LOL. Edited by queenlerxst - July 20 2007 at 15:17 |

Greatly recommended.
"Comfort Me, I've Lost My Heart" has to be one of the best songs of 2005, post-rock wise. |

And the second one:
LOSS OF A CHILD*
Progressive music sub-genre: Experimental/Post-Rock An instrumental rock band from London, England, Loss of a Child use pianos, string sections, guitars and drums to create a classically-influenced post-rock noise. With elements boarding on quiet ambience and others with distorted guitars and crashing drums, the ambitious nature with the classical instruments sets Loss of a Child apart from many leftfield acts, producing a hugely epic sound. Loss of a Child concentrate on producing cohesive albums over individual songs and have two full lengths completed, 'The Future Symphony' and 'Caught and Lost'. A third is in the making at present. Recommended for fans of: Just listen to them. They have all of their albums for FREE at http://www.archive.org/details/lost_children Enjoy! |

A first review on Gastr Del Sol's debut has been finally written.
I actually used most of the impressions I noted down here for it, I liked how wicked I was able to write about what I heard in the album. |

MASERATI*
Progressive music sub-genre: Experimental/Post-Rock Recommended for fans of: Turing Machine, fans of Pink Floyd's One Of These Days and post-rock groups that know how to rock well. They're fans of krautrock so that counts for something too. Samples: http://www.myspace.com/maseratirocks |

^^^ I have their debut and I enjoy it quite alot. It has a bit of folk in it which gives it a more organic sound. I like the overall mood of the album too, I can't wait to listen to the other ones, although I've heard that their 2006 album is different than the first 2.
I wouldn't know. I haven't been to any. |

Great to see As The Poets Affirm now here. I think they were one of my suggests from a while ago [mind you I did suggest about thirty bands, so I cannot really remember]. Might put their two albums I have on to refresh my memory, I think I quite liked them.

You are very welcome! It's great having seen all of those acts live as well!
And as a general note, is it just me, or is post-rock MUCH better in a live setting than on record?

Oh! I almost forgot Assaf's addition:
LEBANON*
Progressive music sub-genre: Experimental/Post-Rock "Israel doesn't necessarily come to mind as a rock & roll nation -- and neither does Lebanon, but that's the name chosen by the quartet originally from Tel Aviv. The core of the group came together in the early 2000s when guitarists/samplers Avinoam Sternheim and Juval Haring initially formed a two-person effort called the Noisy Mornings , which barely squeaked out an EP before collapsing, as the two had to serve their mandatory national service in the Israeli army for some years. Toward the middle of 2005, having left the military behind them, the duo met bassist Avishy Londner and drummer Adam Katz , who together swiftly coalesced under the Lebanon name. With an aim for the kind of instrumental epic drama that groups like Slint and Mogwai had made famous, Lebanon quickly began building up a reputation for itself via shows in its home country as well as releasing an initial EP of demo cuts, as well as following the now de rigueur approach of building an Internet fan base worldwide via sites like MySpace. Showing an agreeable speed to their efforts, the band's full debut album, Sunken City , featuring poet Roni Hirsch as a collaborator, appeared in March 2006, little under a year after it had begun. Katz subsequently departed the group, replaced by Ira Motstyn." Recommended for fans of: The Samuel Jackson Five and other not-so-straightforward-and-fun-yet-emotional-post-rock bands. Samples: http://www.myspace.com/lebanonband Enjoy! |

And another one too:
AS THE POETS AFFIRM*
Progressive music sub-genre: Experimental/Post-Rock Recommended for fans of: Bell Orchestre, Clogs, Anoice, Neil On Impression and other orchestrated post-rock bands (although NOT epic). Samples: http://www.myspace.com/asthepoetsaffirm & http://www.asthepoetsaffirm.com/# Two additions in one day. Enjoy! |

ENVY*
Progressive music sub-genre: Experimental/Post-Rock They've released various singles and albums through different labels and have toured with Isis, This Machine Kills, Mogwai and Yaphett Kotto. They have also made several split albums with other Screamo / Post-Hardcore bands. If you've never been a fan of the Screamo genre, but enjoy the intensity and grandiosity of post-rock bands then Envy is the band to get you into the genre. Recommended for fans of: Mono, Caspian, Mogwai, Laura, Callisto, Isis and other thundering post-rock bands. Samples: http://www.myspace.com/officialenvy P.S. Liking Screamo vocals would be easier to enjoy, but if not then this could be your introduction to them. |

I would really like to see Envy here, I have their whole discogaphy. I haven't gone through it for a looooong time but I need to. But "...Story" wouldn't hinder an induction imo. I'll post here what their other stuff is like sometime lol.
Insomniac Doze is so so great. Def get more albums. :) This album is still my fave post-rock after such a long time. It's the newness of post-rock with these vocals. Crystallize is so beautiful.
I said that earlier this year somewhere, and the person said that was there last year too... so whatever. Ha. Edited by Meddler - July 15 2007 at 07:01 |
