To Syd:

Thank you for changing the way people look at music. That honor is given to so few people in the history of the world, and at least one person in this world puts you up on that pedestal as well.

You'll be missed, by all.

A true pioneer, who's legacy will continue on. I am grateful for his impact on my, and other lives. Syd, your suffering is finally over. (Deep bow)

^Yes, Syd touches my heart still, I can still feel his existense in this world. It may sound silly, but it's true. I think it's the way that I identify with him-it's strange indeed.

^ Some people are not just meant for this world, it seems... Yet they are the ones that touch our hearts the most.

RIP, Syd Barrett.

The drugs were a mere catalyst, they hurried it. To be honest they were probably good in a way-they gave his tortured mind an escape from reality. I think he existed on another level of human existence, where he had trouble communicating with those not on that level.

Finally his family can rest in peace as no one will be trying bother them to get Syd to record something he wasn't able to do for 35 years.

Likewise for Syd, as I am sure he was equally harrassed.

Forget the drugs, they only hurried the situation. This was a person who was tortured mentally and probably wouldn't have lasted more than a couple of years with Floyd without the drugs.

Was he a genius? I don't know. I do know that this label is too often applied to someone who dies young, or burns out early.

Syd, I hope wherever you are, you are Resting In Peace.

There's really no proof that the drugs did anything at all to him. Schizophrenia and psychosis rates are not notably higher in users of psychoactive drugs than in the population at large.

To repeat myself from one of the other threads...

The loss of Syd is a truly sad one, but what is more sad to me is how unrecognized his contributions are.  I first heard the news on another website, where the headline actually quoted DSotM, which of course was not one of Syd's albums.  One never hears Barrett-era PF on the radio (except 'See Emily Play' rarely).  People commented the article by quoting a lot of 'The Wall' and WYWH.  sad.  Cry

As many of you might know, Syd is my hero. He was a creative genius and a man who existed on another plane of existense. He sacrificed his sanity for this. His music was absolutely stellar and wonderful-In my opinion soe of the best ever.

But Syd Lives on-we have a part of Syd in all of us. When you look into his eyes you can almost feel the madness, the genuis, and the innocence.

Syd will always shine my friends, so lets all hope he go's to a better place-and he will.

That's just so sad! He gave so much to rock, and I truly think that without him, probably I would be making an entirely different kind of music.

So, shine on Syd!
