"it was directed to the author of the thread..."

That's me...I'm the creator of the thread.  I don't HAVE an opinion on it.  I can't until I know what it is I'm listening to.  Otherwise I'd never have started this thread.

There are a few prog cliches here and there, and the story is a bit out of whack. But overall I still think it's a good album, but not the masterpiece people rave it to be.

It is old chum!

Old chum you say?!

Prepare yourself to be able to defend yourself regardless of your opinion is my advice.

lol no

i just dont like it... i used to listen to it a lot but after a while the effect wore off and i realized how just how incredibly cheesy it is.

I'll admit it's cheesy, but there are some solid riffs and rhythms in there...

Anyway, my comment actually wasn't directed towards you... it was directed to the author of the thread as I was mentioning to them that they better defend their opinion on it if they want to get anywhere.

One of the greatest prog metal albums ever!!! Actually, I'm a bit jealous that discovering DT is still ahead for you They're the greatest prog metal band, and SFAM is their second best album after Images And Words(IMO). So you won't be disappointed

I'm getting Dream Theater's Metropolis: Scenes From A Memory Part II for X-mas.  It's rated pretty highly on Progarchives.com (4.29). Question, people. What am I getting myself into?  In the end, I know it's my opinion, but I want other opinions as well.
