If it's anywhere near as good as Necromonkey's newest, then I'm sold.

Both are just amazing. All Necromonkey is amazing by the way! Clap

Have you by any chance checked out Claudio Milano - yet another wild man from Italy? He is without a shadow of a doubt one of the most extreme vocalists I've ever had the pleasure of listening to, and I'm fairly certain that his blend of chamber rock, avant and futuristic folk will hold something to your liking.
Hey David

I don't know his stuff at all but - not for the first time - your recommendation will ensure that I check it out. Thanks!

My mileage with extreme vocalists varies, but I count Demetrio Stratos and Klaus Blasquiz amongst my favourites, so we'll see how I do with Claudio.

I'm still absorbing it, really, but I already know it is magnificent. It was your blog which initially drew the first OTEME album to my attention - thanks again for that.

If you happen to be in touch with Stefano Gianotti, please convey my gratitude not only for the music itself but also for the very good English translations of the lyrics provided in the booklet.  They've really enhanced my understanding and enjoyment.

Will do! I am sure he'll be thrilled.

OK, I think I can have a go at this now. I've made more of an effort than usual to keep up with things as they're released this year, so I actually have some clue what I like Smile

My Favourite Album of the Year:
OTEME, L’agguato , L´abbandono , Il mutamento
More brilliant songwriting and elegant, unusual chamber rock compositions from Stefano Gianotti and his ensemble. I haven't heard anything else from 2015 that is so full of beauty and originality.

Very best of the rest:
Ángel Ontalva, Tierra Quemada
Björk, Vulnicura
Blind Idiot God, Before Ever After
Breznev Fun Club, Il misantropo felice (1)
Circle, Pharoah Overlord (2)
Ghost Rhythms, Madeleine
Karda Estra, Strange Relation
Mřster!, When You Cut Into The Present
Necromonkey, Show Me Where It Hertz
Ręve Général, Howl (3)
Stara Rzeka, Zamknęły się oczy ziemi

Excellent:
Brian Ellis Group, Escondido Sessions
Deadly Orgone Radiation, Power Trips
Dungen, Allas Sak
Loose Tubes, Arriving
October Equus, Live at R.I.O. Festival 2014
Sonar, Black Light
Troyka, Ornithophobia
Turzi, C
Vespero, Fitful Slumber Until 5am (1)

Good to Very Good:
British Sea Power, Sea of Brass box set
Drugon, Dragon
elephant9, Silver Mountain
Guapo, Obscure Knowledge
Jaga Jazzist, Starfire
Karda Estra, Future Sounds (EP)
Księżyc, Rabbit Eclipse
The Fierce and The Dead, Magnet (EP)

Best re-releases:
Last Exit, Iron Path
Magma, Köhnzert Zünd
Sonny Sharrock, Ask the Ages
Spinifex, 2005-15

Notes:
(1)  This year two of my favourite records were instrumental concept albums about sleep phenomena. Fairly sure that won't happen again.  OK, a few vocals on the Breznev album, but the point holds.
(2)  That is the album Pharoah Overlord by the band Circle, not the album Circle by the band Pharoah Overlord (which was simultaneously released).  Thanks for that one, Jussi.
(3)  Contains my favourite actual song of the year, the superb Si tu Veux.

Overall, it's been a vintage year for the kind of stuff I'm into. And I still didn't hear a bunch of stuff!

I just realised that this whole year I've forgotten to mention a couple of stellar electronic albums: Ash Koosha's GUUD and Oneohtrix Point Never's Garden of Delete.

Albums I have yet to check out include the new Battles and Perhaps. Been meaning to check out the former, but their latest album did absolutely nothing for me.

Exactly - I feel the same. Or else we would all be listening to Celine Dion, and that is a frightening thought.

Maybe it'll reveal it's inner beauty at a later time for me as well, but for now I am experiencing great difficulty in reaching the end of the album. Same thing goes for Unreal City and last year's releases from Latte e Miele and Syndone. Yeah sorry about that mate - I know I am mentioning some of your faves

Albums I've been spinning and digging over the past week or so:

Hedersleben - The Fall Of Chronopolis (Psychedelic prog with hints of Amon Düül ll. They remind me of Goat who also sports a female vocalist a la Renate Knaup)
La Conscienza di Zeno - La Notte... (Modern by the numbers RPI. Sounds like most other Italian prog bands.)
La Curva di Lesmo - s/t (This one speaks more to me, although I am not completely sold by the vocals. The organs though sound incredible)
Mammatus - Sparkling Water (If Popol Vuh was a metal act)
Simon Steensland - A Farewell to Brains (Wonderful almost Canterburian sounding avant-prog)

3 of those deserve to be on my list, but I have no space left
4 of these are on my list, I never heard of Simon Steensland. By the way, that was my opinion about La Notte at first, but one day it hit me like thunder Tongue

Finally getting around to doing this...top 20 will be a bit of a stretch, though I have a good list that I still need to hear.

So does this mean that you still haven't heard the new Elephant9 album?

That is correct sir. My list can use (potentially) great releases like this. Tongue
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive

Still not heard, at this point I'm probably going to download it.
