Did a rough sampling of bands that are supposedly available through these sites. Verified the artist official site to see if sites like ITunes and others are mentioned.  The few that do mention download sites, do not refer to these.
My belief, IMO, is that these sites are bogus. One site states that they just  "refer" you to other sites Wink where you may find music you want to legally download, eh. But stating no responsability for the destination site.

What's so strange about that? I have a list of links on Progfreak.com too ... all are legitimate - at least I hope so. But I can't know what all those webmasters are doing ...

true, but I think the legit sites usually have some sort of reference point or description such as record label sourcing for material, or that they serve the smaller independant acts or labels.
For some business models, they will state the limitations inherent in their service, i.e. subscription services where the music is playable only on the computer while it streams. Or, the need for one to endure ads that pay for the "free" music.
Any site where you can get commercially released music for nothing is a site that I question. Kazaa, Emule, BitTorrent and all other P2Ps never ever claim that they have the blessing of the artists or labels, because they don't. So if you don't see the labels being mentioned, chances are they're not associated.

Haven't heard any feedback ... would you folks feel comfortable giving your credit card number on such a site ?
I've done this for Marillion and D.O.A., which were based in the U.K., and Canada respectively. Er , could Gatot be the person to talk to ?

It is legal to download legally available material. The problem with your thread was that you were seeking links to unauthorised leaks of unreleased albums.

This is a quite old thread!

I'd like to talk to you about a prog band called anasazi! I saw no reference to them on the forum and as I like it much I feel obliged to talk about them... They're about to release their 4th album, see here Wink

Anyway and everything can be downloaded for free (and to my opinion that's worth listening) from their website: http://www.anasazi-prog.com

I remember another prog band doing the same thing. It waves an ambiant music, really nice, I need to find it out!

Marillion's latest single is available here (MP3)

http://whateveriswrongwithyou.com/

For my video version, which you can check out first without having to enter any details:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6Sl9s1LiWw

Remember its only a single, so it won't be the proggiest thing on their new double 'concept' album (release date October - exclusively available from www.marillion.com).

A prog band?

It was suggested a while ago, I listened to the download tracks offered here myself, it was rejected it for Eclectic.

I just downloaded the new album (a collection) from Vlad V , but I didn't consider a prog band myself. Maybe Prog-Related. You could try it, Ricochet.
Or I shoul download another album?

Crossover or Prog-Related could be fine.

Only for this weekend (3 days):

Kekal - The Habit of Fire (2007)
Their label (Open Grave Records) is giving away some of their releases for free download.

The link is here:
http://www.opengraverecords.com

More info about this album (from http://www.myspace.com/kekal):

"...their tightness and discipline as a unit is impressive, and you can tell that they’ve been playing together for a long time. The adjective ‘progressive’ has been over-used in music, but Kekal have more right to it than most. " - Sound On Sound Magazine (CD of The Month)

"The Habit of Fire is as compelling as it is bizarre. The 70-minute CD is like flipping randomly between radio stations playing Rush, King Crimson, Ulver, and the Mars Volta, yet there’s a cohesiveness that keeps everything from imploding, highlighted by the remarkable, 15-minute 'Escapism'. Truly one of a kind." - Popmatters

"The Habit of Fire is a progressive, adventurous album that almost transcends the metal tag altogether. It is living proof that music is only limited by the creativity of the artists. If there is any justice in this world, this album will bring Kekal some much deserved attention from fans all over the world." - Metalreview.com

"This is an album that's extremely difficult to categorize...This is an album that's experimental, unusual and completely unique." - About.com

"This is vibrant interesting metal of a decidedly experimental nature...The axe-work is some of the tastiest I have heard in a while... All in all, this is genius (a word used too easily, but here completely justified) and is on my personal top-ten list for 2007." - Avantgarde-Metal.com

Note: Open Grave Records is a death/black metal record label but other than Kekal (which is a prog/avant-garde/post metal band) they have 2 other prog bands on their roster: Poropetra & Orphan Project
