It's getting colder, and I'm feeling like some electric kraut sounds. Listening to a lot of Popol Vuh, and Faust. Want to get into Tangerine Dream.

The Krautrock Space on the 2. page? I donīt think so...

Electric Sandwich anyone? Itīs a real tasty affair - just be careful of the live wires:

Love Monster Movie ! I'm going to start with Delay 1968 with Mr.Moody on vocals then hit Monster Move,Sountracks and so on.Should be a blast.

Nice oneCool I like your recent approach John - getting back to those classic albums. I mean we get pretty obscure from time to time in here (maybe the only places for obscure material these days are those genre appreciation threads such as RPI, Zeuhl and this one), but it sure is nice to get back to some albums that you know like the back of your hand, but just havenīt gotten around to play for the better part of a year. I have that with Tago Mago actually, so Iīm putting that on, since weīre talking about Can.

Yep the more I hear of it, the more I fall in love with that Soon over Babaluma. There is a distinct continuation of Future Days happening, not in a derivative way but more like elaborating on those soft and sombre textures.

Hey Pierre - I only have his Canaxis album and find it pretty mesmerizing. He was a fountain of musical inspiration back in those days.

Oh and I love dog sheet rock!!!!

Can is my all times favorite Kautrock band and Future Days their most perfect album. The second one is probably Soon Over Babaluma. In third position I'll put the First Holger Czuckay's masterpiece : Movies.

Ps : I never say Krautrock, but Kautrock. It's not a mistake. In french, Kraut (crotte) means dog sheet.

...

I try not to do that to anyone ...  in the end, FOR ME, this hurts the ability for many folks to listen to music and realize that there are other musics out there, and they sound very different.

Our house was reared in classical music (many K of LP's still there), and dad, who had a very good ear for listening to music history -- for he had it all in historical order too -- and one could say that different musics, after living in Portugal, Brazil and America, is not an issue for me ... but IT IS for most "progressive" and "prog" listeners, that are not always open minded about music, in general ... always on the defensive and defending their top of the pops, and discussing idealistic details about the music that actually make it seem like ... kid's play ... for no composer would be bound by those ideas or conventions, ever, anywhere in the world, unless he was just scripting another Hollywood movie! I guess you go where the money and evil is?

I know a lot of older folks that love classical music, and tend to not like rock music. Many of them do not have an issue listening to Vangelis, or Tomita (took my dad a while, too!) or Mike Oldfield, or even catching some Coltrane, but they have a hard time with the much more modern Jarrett, for example, or even some of the more complex and challenging listens that one can get from some of these "progressive" gods, but then, not all of those mentioned above can listen to Schoenberg or Maxwell Davies!

The other thing that is very HARD for many of these older listeners, and sometimes myself as well, is the insistence for "popular music" and "commercial music" to be stuck on the beats, and not develop the music itself, which is what the history of music has been about for at least a couple thousand of years!

In the end, helping those people understand and learn about more music, is what this is about ... and you failed! And I do not want to disappoint you, but Mani would not be happy ... the last thing he would ever want to do is alienate people and not help them know what the music is all about ...

Please, if I may ask, be an AMBASSADOR for all music ... not make fun of people because they could not understand what you played for  them.

I know what you mean Mosh, but on the other hand she was not turning my offer down. Maybe I left that part out. She was willing to hear it. Also, she seemed elated that I laughed at this highly peculiar scene. I know you are a defender of the faith - here being music, and the magic it constitutes, but please donīt lecture me about a subject that clearly is laughable and only meant that way.
I was not making fun of her, but at this crazy event. How often do you have the chance to play krautrock to an old lady? No.one was hurt, and it seems a few here got a wee giggle out of it.

Yep - itīs Can, a German Krautrock band. Do you fancy a listen? I pop the headphones on the slightly confused elderly lady, and it was this track thundering away just when Damo is starting to get into it:

I'm not even sure it's possible to purchase.  I (ahem) acquired it via legitimate means.

This will however, probably prove to be a difficult purchase. Hereīs hoping for a lucky find. Thanks for postingThumbs Up
