I might add another line-up. One I was thinking about on another thread. - David Gilmour - Guitars and vocals. - Steven Wilson - Guitars, vocals, and keyboards. - Mark Kelly - Keyboards. - Mariuz Duda - Bass and vocals. - Chris Maitland - Drums. - And I guess we could add Theo Travis on Sax and winds (or else, Dick Parry himself).
I'm not really sure if Mark Kelly or Richard Barbieri would work better for a line-up like this, though.

I don't remember if I already wrote this line-up, or a very similar one, but here it goes: Peter Hamill - Vocals. Steve Howe (or Robert Fripp) - Guitars (or both, since Fripp liked to play with dual guitars anyway). Keith Emmerson - Keyboards. Ian Anderson - Flute (and additional vocals and guitars). David Jackson - Sax (and additional flute). Chris Squire - Bass (and backing vocals). Bill Bruford - Drums.

Updated version of my actual perfect line-up:
Jon Anderson - Vocals Alex Lifeson - Guitar Tony Banks - Keys and rhythm/twelve string guitar Chris Squire - Bass Neil Peart - Drums
Based on my recent listening tastes:
Avey Tare - Vocals D. Boon - Lead guitar Steven Drozd - Rhythm guitar and keys Mike Watt - Bass Kliph Scurlock - Drums
Just think about it; Kliph's fantastic beats comboed with really great guitar and keys textures from Steven, D. Boon and Mike playing some really catchy, angular riffs on top, accentuated by Avey's lively vocals

^ I was avoiding that one for some reason - looks a bit 'hardcore' for my liking. I'm very fussy and cautious with Prog-Metal.

After listening to some Haken, I have been thinking that Ross Jennings would sound great singing with Dream Theater. I always thought DT had some of the strongest musicians available, and wouldn't change anyone (specially before Portnoy left), except for LaBrie, and replacing him with Jennings would just complete the perfect line-up. Of course, by now I guess it's just better to have more Haken. |
I like the way Jennings sings on the track, because Its there' off The Mountain album.
When he sings deeply melodic like that I think it could work with DT, but for me LaBrie is still the man. Would be interesting to hear though. |
The thing is that I actually find LaBrie rather Annoying. I undestand he has a very powerful voice and can reach insane notes, but he kind of lacks a personality to his voice (apart from being annoying). I like him much better when he sings subtle and calm. Jennings is much more pleasnt for me when he is throwing his lungs out. | Haken - The Mountain - F-U-C-K my ol' boots ............ what a killer album......killer voice, killer instrumental chops....... |
I take it you enjoyed 'The Mountain' ? Yeah. It's pretty cutting edge Prog metal. | .......and more !! I'm so excited and thrilled with the quality of this album, and lots of recent Prog releases, it's really pulling me away from the 70's stuff..... |
Right you are. Hey. I think you'd really dig/appreciate LEPROUS's COAL album. It's pretty impressive.
I'd give that a spin, so you can really be yanked out if the 70's.
