My vote would go to the obvious.

And Pink Floyd would fall flat on their face if they had to write a funny, whimsical album like Sgt Peppers.   If you are going to address this question by pointing out what the Beatles did not do that Floyd did, there's plenty more that Floyd could not do that the Beatles could.  In terms of versatility, there's simply no comparison at all.

^ I thought Rick would be an architect ... or designing toilet seats, as he said LOL .

Miss you, man. R. I. P.

And besides, give the Fab boys a break; they've done enough to be beyond legendary. Indeed, without them, where would the Floyd really be?

Well no but the rule is the same. Without The Beatles, Nick Mason and Roger Waters would be architects, Richard Wright would be a pianist who would play in bars, Syd Barrett would be a painter and David Gilmour would be a poor guitarist.

Like what....do tell please.....Looking forward to your list.
The Beatles had the top spot on Rolling Stone's 500 greatest albums of all time list with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Pink Floyd didn't
The Beatles had hit the number one spot on the Bilboard Hot 100 20 times.
Pink Floyd had hit the number one spot on the Bilboard Hot 100 only one time
The Beatles had sold more than one billion albums worldwide
Pink Floyd had sold 250 million albums worldwide
Every song of every Beatles record is well known
Pink Floyd has unknown records: More, Atom Heart Mother
The Beatles had released 206 songs during their seven year carrer
Pink Floyd had released 145 songs during their thirty-one year carrer
And the list goes on and on...

I have a hammer and some nails I can give you, you can seal yourself in your own coffin. I probably can count on one hand how many people on this site care about Rolling Stone or Billbord...........
Those are bold comments in red.......ouch!

Ivan did a fine job disecting your list. Give me any obscure album over any beatles album and I will be happy...I prefer not to follow the masses.

Yeah but I don't care about Bilboard or Rolling Stone. And I say that the Beatles are better songwriters only because they were more magic. But still Pink Floyd is very magic. I love both artists. But in terms of musicianship, Pink Floyd wins:
Guitar players:
George Harisson and John Lennon vs David Gilmour. David Gilmour because he plays the good notes at the good time.
Keyboard players:
John Lennon and Paul McCartney vs Richard Wright. Righard Wright wins
Rythym sections:
Beatles vs Pink Floyd. I don't care. They are both not gifted

I believe Floyd were much better songwriters, even if The Beatles more innovative.

Tell me they invented POP and I'll follow you, they only became close to Prog in Abbey Road, they only joined Psyche after this genre was already pretty popular.

No s$%t. I never heard or read anyone talk about "I Need You" or "You Won't See Me" or "The Word" ... unless you meant that statement as an exaggeration.

I can't care less for Rolling Stones Magazine, as a fact I consider an honor being ignored by RS

I care even  less for Biillboard than about Rolling Stones Magazinne

I care even less for sales than about Billboard LOL

Most of the bands I love are unknown by 90% of the people.

Well...The Beatles songs lasted an average 3.00 minutes

Pink Floyd has much longer songs as a fact they have 13 songs over 10 minutes with a total time of 3 hours 16 minutes, 48 seconds (Only that 11 songs represent an average of 65 Beatles songs. Wink)...Not counting the 48 Pink Floyd songs between 5:01 and 9:49 minutes.

I prefer longer songs (5 - 6 minutes average)

BTW: Pink Floyd's songwriting career didn't lasted 31 years, only 27, their last studio album was released in 1994.

In other words,  statistics mean very little when talking about music.

I love one Beatles album (Abbey Road) and like two more.

I love at least 5 Pink Floyd albums.

No matter how influential The Beatles are, I  go the The Floyd

This comparison raises some interesting issues:
As far as creating popular music that has become an acknowledged reference point across all secular cultures, it's more than likely that anyone > 40 years old can name all four Beatles and sing several of their songs: this is NOT true of Floyd.
However, DSotM is probably on a par with anything the Beatles created (purely in terms of becoming a cultural artefact recognised at a global level etc).

^^^ Um, if we did measure it only in terms of influence and importance to music, Beatles would still beat the daylights out of Pink Floyd.  I don't know why this question cannot be decided only on account of personal preference, though.  If somebody likes PF more than Beatles, he likes it, that's all.  Nothing to justify there.

Oh so now we measure achievement by the rate of approval of Rolling Stone magazine and the number of records sold and number of top hits? Damn, quite strange for a prog fan.

Pink Floyd by approximately 2567900000 nautical miles, the distance between the abbey street and that dark side of the satellite.
