I'm giggling at the other possible way to interpret this (Spock's Beard is only good if you don't listen to them).

PT isn't like Pawn Hearts though, people have so much trouble with Pawn Hearts because it's one of the most avant-garde albums in the Top 50 and most people here aren't already into avant-garde music. I assume Block here doesn't like PT because it's boring pop-rock. ;-)
I meant that if you have never listened to Spocks Beard you might want to try them out.

Twice? I had to listen tens of times to Pawn Hearts (VdGG) to like it. But it was worth it.

For me it's is Porcupine Tree. I only have one album but I've listened to it twice already and I still can't get into it.

Whilst I don't particularlyl like them, I can see what people see in Gong, Rush, the more avant-garde Gentle Giant, most prog-metal (my thing is symphonic prog).

For me, the band I just can't 'get' is Van der Graaf Generator.

Seconded, together with Gong. They must represent prog's airborne divisions during an air traffic controller's strike. Thing is, I want to like them but have never yet made it through Space Ritual or any of the Radio Gnome critters in one sitting. It just doesen't go anywhere or make me feel anything. Perhaps you need to have your consciousness erm...heightened to be properly receptive to this stuff ?

Not necessarily. You have the wrong expectation. The music is not supposed to go anywhere, as you expect, it just floats. Allow yourself to float with it. That is the secret for most early Krautrock too.

I guess my habitual expectation of form is undermined by such music so you may be correct (but your description smacks of a recommendation for the perfect isolation tank soundtrack Wink)

Spocks Beard is good if you have never listened to them. So is Genesis, but with Dream Theater I say just keep trying and you will see how awesome Rudess is... oh I mean Dream Theater.

Hey! My first post!!

I would say Dream Theater. I don't know why but I just can't get into them.
I feel like I must be missing something, but God knows what...
I listen to a variety of Prog from Mars Volta to Rush to Porcupine Tree to
Yes to you name it...

I don't think you have a problem with Edge of Sanity. I think you have a problem with the progressive death metal genre as a whole.
The Prog Death Metal genre is a good genre, not my favorite, but it is one of the top.
It's obouisly not my favorite but the music is great some of the best i've heard but it is the growling i mean serouisly little to much for me
