With magic, you can turn a frog into a prince.
With science, you can turn a frog into a Ph.D. and you still have the frog you started with.

Great album! How do you like it?
American Khatru wrote:
I'm sure that there are others here more familiar with the Rock Progresivo Argentino scene of the seventies, but I got into it enough a while back to be dangerous. All bands I'll mention have pages here in PA. Be forewarned - imo you may already know the highest level record in Bubu's lone release.
Crucis did the two records shown above. Each is excellent in its own right. I remember being really pretty bored with the first repeating riff of the second album, Los Delirios Del Mariscal, when I first heard it. Only to be completely knocked over by the clever scale-use and modalities of the song once the vocals kick in. If you're into a great band interplay look no further.
Almendra had an early album, maybe the first, usually called Almendra I, that is proto-prog and really rather good.
Agnus has a 1980 album that is hard to describe. (Btw, the music is from the mid to late 70's, but saw sadly a late release.) Not really "songs" for the most part (though melodic as all get out at times); lots of vocal, choral moments; violin and flute; drum solo. One gets the feeling the words are important (maybe protest? or just an impression I get...), but I don't understand Spanish well, and far less so the Argentinian brand.
I personally think Serú Girán, though one of the most famous due to Charly García's prescence, is kind of overrated (not way overrated though). Great musicianship, but... eh.
Also worth checking out are La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros (I think that means Machine for the Manufacture of birds). I read somewhere years back that one of their members (the singer?) said they were the Yes of the third world. Being a fan of the Yes sound, the quote caused me to get their first record (and I later got the second) - but by this he must have meant popularity akin to Yes, because he could not have meant their sound. Still great stuff though.

Thanks I'll be sure to look into a few of these groups
