Focus. There bacially known as just a mere one hit wonder with Hocus Pocus, and barely ever get mentioned along with the top prog acts. I think they deserve much better than that.

Charly Garcia's bands "Sui Generis" and "Seru Giran" are ignored here. Sui Generis has a wonderful proggy 3rd album, and Seru Giran is like the Beatles progged up, having all virtuosic musicians and even better songwriting/melodies.
The Post rock experimentation genre is also kinda ignored ... Take me as an example! I only heard Tool, Mars Volta and Radiohead. I should check out more.

*Fighting urge to plug my own band*
I think Sleepytime Gorilla Museum has yet to reach the recognition they deserve.

I could name hundreds, here's seven suggestions:
German band Schicke Führs & Fröhling, dark and symphonic. Anglagard must have heard them.
German electronic pioneers Cluster, even less known than Neu! A lot less known than Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk. More catchy than you think.
Supersister, their three first albums 70-72 are all classic Cantebury, except that they're Dutch and even better.
Also have to add the Welsh group Gnidrolog, two albums both '72, that are as good as the best ones from VdGG or Gentle Giant.
Samla Mammas Manna (Zamla Mammaz Manna, Von Zamla) - Do you like Gong or Zappa? These swedes are equally good and original, and funnier.
French bands Shylock and Dün. Both dark, instrumental, complex sounding.
Italian seventies stuff should get more attention in general. (and German)

Over land and under ashes
In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye
But don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
Don't believe in me

Besides, thanks to PA, I've discovered a lot of good bands, but they are more widely known, as far as I know (Ashra, Popol Vuh...).

Let's do the opposite of the "over-rated" band thread theme...
Which bands are/ were innovative but remain somewhat ignored or unjustly obscure? I am talking about bands like Iluvator and Lemur Voice who are both excellent IMO.
