Or have people run out of steam with regards to the interactive polls in general?

For me, so far this year, it has mainly been about having much less free time and not being able to post or feeling like posting. I have also taken on a new job role, as well as generally getting older and dealing with other family members health issues as well.

However, here's my nomination> It can be listened to when it's raining, or sunny, whenever for me it is the promise of better times to come, even through dark times. Always on my playlist for any road trip :)

I'm sorry, if you were right, I'd agree with you. Robin Williams.

I will stick with the only one I mentioned (and nominated): Ciśnienie - Same Trupy (off Brass Album)

Unless you happen to decide to change it to nominate two tracks... ;)

Here's Rawa by Ciśnienie off the album JazzArt Underground incidentally.

Just kidding. Well normally the voting starts about one week after the poll is up. That is today.

maybe we should decide tomorrow on our final nominations.

Just kidding. Well normally the voting starts about one week after the poll is up. So theoretically today it is.

For my third track, I'm surprised I didn't think about this track sooner:

Peter Hammill - Sitting Targets

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

For my second track, I've reinterpreted the poll topic as a metaphor for the journey through life, in particular one's career path:

Peter Hammill - Careering

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

There are so many songs that I associate with particular journeys, but one stands out more than any other, even though it’s not even a particularly stand out song, per se. In fact, before it became associated with the journey, it was probably my least favourite song on the album it comes from. But it’s since become a very firm favourite. Such is the difference an associated memory can make to a piece of music.

The journey was my return flight from the US to NZ. I was flying out from Seattle, very reluctantly as I had become very good friends and fallen in love with a girl there. These were days before MP3 players, so I had my discman and a selection of CDs to listen to on the long flight home. As it was, the CD I put in at the beginning of the flight remained there for the duration of the flight, as I fell in and out of sleep. And, so very oddly, it seemed as if I only ever woke up at some point during this song. Apart from the take off and landing, I honestly don’t remember hearing any other song. Just this one. Listening to it anytime subsequently reminds me of that flight, and of that girl I left behind.

It's rather difficult to choose a song, I listen to a lot of different kinds of music while travelling, commuting and so on, from pop, rock, post rock, prog, metal, JRF, even a little bit of jazz.

One reason why it becomes more difficult to propose something good for the polls is because every collection is ultimately finite and the ambition to always suggest new artists means that at some point those that I really want to present are more or less exhausted. I like the topic a lot but all I have in mind is either prog or was already suggested.

I think I also once had something by Hamburg local heroes Ostzonensuppenwurfelmachenkrebs (stock cubes from the GDR make cancer); maybe not here but in Logan's "post a video" thread, but anyway, the sound of this one works very well when driving. Also the video is to some extent travel themed.
Von Haus aus allein.

In fact I had nominated "Flight" already for an earlier poll. If I'm not mistaken, also the second band I think of has already been suggested by me, but ultimately not nominated, and with a different track. Much of my favourite travel music is actually rhythmic instrumentals. Like the Hidden Orchestra, also the Startled Insects are among my favourites. Here they are with Creatures:

Really glad you enjoyed it Kees. I like this kind of repetition, and I love the way it builds to this rather "wall of noise" type crescendo. Such music approaches fit me well when driving, as it can invigorate me (Cardiacs' "Dirty Boy" has been a car standard and various Swans of late). At other times I just want more calm music, and the music I play in the car depends on if I have passengers. If my wife is in the car, then I'll be more likely to put on John Denver and The Carpenters.

I remember you posted them before. Didn't you say to you were at the performance? Or maybe thinking about something else. Anyway, good stuff!

I  submitted a piece by Hidden Orchestra in the 'Field Recordings' poll but you didn't vote for it because you knew the band. I don't think that you knew that particular piece, though. Tongue

I'm a bit late to the party and didn't have much time to think about what to share. As I'm getting ready to head south this spring, I randomly picked a couple of tracks from my playlist that I'm about to create for that trip. My private 'soundtrack', so to speak. Smile

Masego, Don Toliver: Mystery Lady

I recently attended Masego's concert in Zurich, my first concert after the pandemic, yay! I've been a fan from the start. Such a talented and innovative guy. He blends genres such as trap, house and jazz creating an emotive future r&b fusion. Meanwhile he's gained widespread attention so some of you may know him already but hey, this is from a playlist for a road trip.

Bab L'Bluz: Ila Mata

These guys are a relatively recent discovery. They are a Moroccan-French band that blends rock and blues with traditional oriental and West African sounds.

I've already selected from this album in an earlier interactive poll. However, this track has always reminded me of driving along the motorway south of Sydney when I was young, especially the section starting from 4:18 in the video. I love that driving groove, and this track is my favourite from the album.

Windchase - No Scruples
