Clap absolutely! And his solo on the studio track of The Hangman And The Papist, while not as technical, is pretty good too.

I always liked Ray Manzarek's solo in Light My Fire. I don't know technical it was to play but it's pretty cool. Oops, Manzarek didn't play a Hammond, just a Vox Continental.

Rick Wakeman considers that to be the best organ solo on record. It's hard to disagree with that. I think maybe he likes it because it's so complicated. I doubt Wakeman himself could play it very easily.

that's why I chuckle when some people say that Argent wasn't good enough to join Yes when he was being considered after Tony Kaye's departure.

What are some of your favorite prog-based Hammond Organ performances?

A non-prog performance really worth mentioning is Garth Hudson's solo on the Band's "Chest Fever".
I'm pretty sure that Garth Hudson used a Lowrey Festival organ on "Chest Fever". Not a Hammond.

John Goadsby aka Goldie McJohn of Steppenwolf on Magic Carpet Ride

Jerry Corbetta of Sugarloaf on Green Eyed Lady
Perhaps finding the happy medium is harder than we know.

Yes, Jon Lord's solo in Space Truckin is out of this world. I also like the intro to Lazy.

Love the Hammond in Space Truckin', but also in Lazy. Actually, you could say Made in Japan is the single best Hammond album...

Top three in no particular order:

Argent - Hold Your Head Up
Deep Purple - Lazy
ELP - Blues Variations

Plus various selections of Rick Wakeman, Niacin & Joey DeFrancesco,
Thank you for supporting independently produced music

I like a lot of the organ on foxtrot and selling england. I can't really think of a whole lot more at the moment. There's some good playing on that Affinity album too. Look I just woke up Psychedelic Paul. LOL
