Thank you micky. In all honesty, being a poll creator or not doesn't matter for me much. I wrote like being extremely excited about this once, but it was intended to be humour. As long as I'm a part of this wonderful "noveau-tradition" (I made this saying up, haha), being a poll creator would virtually be tantamount to not being so. (Two beer or not two beer - William Shakesbeer) Anyway, I leave it to jamesbaldwin. Edited by Shadowyzard - July 09 2020 at 15:19 |

I was going to bring it up in the team thread who was next next week.. I know NIckie and Shadowy wanted to start polls themselves. They've been regulars since early on. UP to you all ... Lorenzo.. but think it best all the regulars get a chance if they want to before those that have done some again and yes.. Mike is and should be first up when we do start with repeat thread starters.

Yes, always. It's all about trying to bring attention to lesser known bands. I'm thinking of a theme something like "Lesser known bands we discovered through exploring the Archives" maybe?

I'm interested. Always songs with less than 50 reviews?

Yes, It's Wim Mertens himself. He does lots of instrumentals but has a few tracks with his own vocals, which I know are divisive. I think he is special and does it well, but I know a number of people who love his music but would like to make him stop singing...

I'm addicted to these things so chances are I will, although I have difficulties to handle two in a week timewise, all the more now that we seem to have three times the number of things to listen to than are finally nominated.

My picks in order of what I liked best.
1. Bernard Herrmann - Dark and creepy with a brilliant arrangement. This is also one of the best movies of the bunch. The best movie? This is Spinal Tap of course. Lord of the Rings is also up there. 2. Ennio Morricone - Upbeat groove propels the song. Are the vocals singing da da da? 3. Nino Rota - Beautiful song, great melody. The classical guitar is weeping. Runner up's.. Wim Mertens is excellent until the pianist (Wim?) sings. Clint Mansell, catchy hip hop beat. Edited by Grumpyprogfan - July 09 2020 at 13:38 |

I will most probably be back for the next poll (I decided to sit out of this, partly for time reasons, but also because I am usually not so fond of listening to film music when separated from the picture). But I wouldn't mind if the time interval between polls was a little longer. Sometimes I have hardly managed to listen to all songs in one poll, and then the next one is already going.

I want to do another prog interactive poll (that is if no one else was planning to do one soon). Would anyone be interested in participating?

Here are my contenders, going to listen through a couple more times before determining my final three.
Contenders: Logan: The Wicker Man, Paul Giovanni & Magnet “Willow’s Song” Loved that, wispy vocals, kind of melancholy, pretty instrumentally, want to hear again. Gentle & Giant: 28 Days, John Murphy “In The House, In A Heartbeat” Starts off nice and eerie and builds and builds, then drops back again. I enjoy this kind of a piece. Meltdowner: Our Town, Aaron Copland “Our Town Suite” Lovely serene music, the main melody is so sweet truly gives the feeling of a small town, in contemplation of it’s normal life. I can hear this becoming an earworm, already still hearing it in my mind’s ear. Lorenzo: The Double Life of Veronica, Zbigniew Preisner “Van den Budenmayer” Very haunting, angelic choral voices. Will have to see if the melody comes back to haunt me. George: Gone Girl, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross "Technically, Missing" Carried Trent and NIN on several tours, so got to see them live. That said, this is very different and more my style. A slower, more insidious feel than the NIN music, at least to me, maybe because of no vocals telling me where to place my mind? I dunno. I like this kind of build/wash of sound thing that sometimes drops and turns into something else. Very atmospheric. dr wu: Vertigo, Bernard Hermann “Vertigo Theme” Love Hitchcock films and his television series here in the 50’s and 60’s (mostly as reruns for me). As usual, this piece works perfectly with the film, sinister and a bit understated, leaving something to the imagination. A contender for sure. Have to say how we always tuned in to watch “The Birds,” knowing Bodega Bay so well and loving Daphne du Maurier’s writing. Edited by Snicolette - July 09 2020 at 19:15 |

Thank you. I was afraid I would have to get together my army of draconians (the ones that explode when you kill them) if you somehow decided to invoke Raistlin's powers against me.

I agree that visuals can be very distracting to music. I usually try to listen without being on the actual video (have that playing on another tab) and prefer those that don't have a video, unlike many people. I also often find that I'm not watching a film, but actually just listening to the soundtrack. I do enjoy beautiful (to my eye, anyway) cinematography and art etc, however and do have some films that I just love. |

How can I hate anybody using a nickname and avatar about cats? You should try REALLY hard for that. Some scratches won't make me hate you. The Annie Lennox song you put sounded way more pleasuresome, listening with a better audio quality. Edited by Shadowyzard - July 09 2020 at 10:21 |

For anyone interested, link to YouTube playlist for just the selections:
I'll update it if it changes. I do this to make it easier for me, so I can continue this for future polls.

Sorry about not choosing that one. I love that song also, but once I finally posted the Annie Lennox song (which I wasn't going to post originally because of the importance of that song during a time in my life where everything in my life was turned around) I couldn't not put it up as my option for voting. Don't hate me for that

That was a rather stupid remark of mine. In German the Juliet in Romeo and Juliet is Julia, too.
It's not a formal elimination criterion. Rather, when I'm listening to music, I care for the music and nothing else, and when I think, this one sounds like written for going with a film, it distracts from the music. And when I'm watching films, I don't normally care for the soundtrack as music, but rather I perceive the film and the music as a unit. For which reason I chose and will vote on my music experience only here, not on whether something is good as soundtrack.
