2 thunder Tuesdayīs albums:
Mississippi Fred McDowell: In London Vol.1 Listened this again. Fred got so great south US accent that I donīt understand everything heīs talking in the middle of songs. But heīs voice is so calming. And in the songs so full of emotions! And heīs slide playing is really personal & great! Samla Mammas Manna: Måltid As in every seventies RIO/Avant group albums, you can hear Zappa influences here. But theyīre also quite personal specially in this album, I really love kind of "late evening atmosphere" in many pieces. I believe falsetto singing and their very Swedish humor will irritate many, but I think theyīre fascinating (although I am Finn). My fav piece is Oförutsedd Förlosning, there they really not sing Swedish, more itīs some nonsense English. Have to also mention their great musicianship, I believe any member could have played in Zappaīs band. To me this is much more Nordic Pride than Abba, when talking great Swedish bands. Absolutely their best album!

I'm pretty sure I've heard that one before, and obviously it's good(it's Magma so.. haven't heard an album from them yet that I didn't like).
Got off to a really slow start. Then it eventually hit a stretch that did remind me a lot of MDK(was really good obviously). Then it hit a stretch that sounded pretty dark, was good though. Still their first 3 studio albums are my favorites. I also really enjoy Udu Wudu and Attahk.. but somehow they lack the POWER of those first 3 albums(for me). Also I like Felicite Thosz.

3 great Monday albums:
the Red Krayola: God Bless the Red Krayola And All Who Sail With It Have to mention again that one B-guy with this album. Havenīt read anywhere, does he listened this album before making his Trout-masterpiece, but I really wouldnīt wonder, if he had. There are lots in common with many pieces musically in this and specially sounds are same kind of very dry and clean. Thompson vocals are of course totally different. All the way this album is really different as their first psych-classic and comparing to that Trout-album this is much more minimalistic. And when it sounds so totally different than anything else in 1968, I just donīt wonder at all it was post-punkers of the seventies that found the greatness of this album. Magma: Köhntarkösz This definitely is the darkest Magma album, but that donīt lessen the power of the music! Lots in common with M.D.K. but goes really even more darker. Really great vocals from Stella here! Because the limitations of the vinyl and the whole suite lasted little over 30 minutes, it had cut in the middle in the original vinyl and there are two different pieces in the end of both sides. A-side piece Ork Alarm is even darker if possible (donīt know does Lord of the Rings influence composer Jannick Top) and although itīs very powerful piece, donīt fit fully into this album. B-side ending Coltrane Sundia (Coltrane Rest In Peace) is much better with itīs positive feeling and brightness. Faust: Munich & Elsewhere Listened this again, really specially first piece goes somewhere between Can & Kraftwerk. I believe Faust would have gone into different direction as they went in the nineties, if they hadnīt splitted in seventies.

Good 60's folk music, I like it.
Fotheringay - Acoustic, sounds very folk music. Mr Lacey - More rockin. Even a guitar solo. The Lord is in This Place...How Dreadful Is This Place - Sounds like a spiritual. No Man's Land - Energetic fun song. I'll Keep it with Mine - Sounds really good, very 60's. Best song so far. Eastern Rain - Very folk music, good. Nottamun Town - This has an interesting, almost early Bolan feel to it. Tale in Hard Time - This one's really good. She Moves Through the Fair - Good 60's folk. Meed on the Ledge - Good sing-along, sounds almost like it should be on Spooky Two. End of a Holiday - Short acoustic filler. |

That was really good. I can definitely see why you like this band so much Mortte, they're very soulful.
Just for You - Good acoustic track. Shanghai Noodle Factory - This has a good sound, I like it. Something's Got a Hold of My Toe - Some rockin 60's sounding guitar here lol, good stuff. Withering Tree - Another good one, singer is getting into it. Medicated Goo - Really jammin tune! Feelin' Good - Some good flute here. This sounds really good, song is really a jam. Blind Man - Sounds soulful, good. You were right, all of those first 3 albums from them are very good.

4 lazy summer Sundayīs albums:
Liekki: Magio This is one of the most beautiful albums of 2000`s! Really sounding so much just seventies! There was some kind of prog boom in Finland in the begin of 2000`s, prog was a short time even more popular here than in the seventies. This progrelated band started then and made this very great first album. In their later albums the leader and songmaker Janne Kuusela changed his acoustic guitar to 12-string electric guitar. In this album with itīs acoustic sounds has also really great keyboard playing! There really are many seventies prog influences here, but still band sounds of itīs own. For example "Francesca Maalaa" got really much Gabriel-era Genesis sounds and melodies. The most prog pieces are last two instrumentals, in this vinyl version is also bonus piece "Saunapiru" that I think owns a lot to Oldfield "Tubular Bells". So sad this band seems today quite forgotten, although was really popular at itīs time! J J Cale & Eric Clapton: the Road To Escondido I think this collaboration album is weaker than Caleīs solo albums, on the other hand much better than any Claptonīs solos after seventies that I have heard. Mostly itīs really sounding Claptonīs seventies albums, but really lacks the personality of Caleīs solos. Although Cale has mostly composed the tracks, I believe it has been Clapton who has been in the lead in the production and arrangements. There has also been Alan Douglas, a man who made those horrible Hendrix albums in the middle of seventies, so itīs possible he has also influenced to how album sounds. Best track is the last most Cale-sounding "Ride the River". Pekka Airaksinen: Inner Galaxies This reminds a little my yesterday Pekka album, but this is much versatile and reminds more his great albums. Specially best tracks "The Ship Which Travels On the Bottom Of the Sea" & "Sounds In the Mirror" has lots in common with his great album "Afrodipankara". Also in this album most pieces has at least simple rhythm in back, when there was no rhythm in "Milk Sea". Surprise Surprise two last pieces are electric versions of Bach compositions, really donīt know which ones, their names are "JSSX" & "JSFF". Traffic: John Barleycorn Must Die Although I think their first album the best and their three first albums their greatest albums, I really understand why many say this their best! After their wild adolescent years the band mature into adult and made this very balanced album. From the very jammy & groovy "Glad" to the sunny "Every Motherīs Son" feeling in this album is very positive and there are no weak tracks. Have to mention really great title song, it is really old English trad song where Winwood & Capaldi sing very beautiful together. Also have to mention Winwood`s musicianship in this album, he plays all the other instruments except drums & woodwinds & horns, really this still is very band sounding album!

Good stuff man. Can always count on Gentle Giant when I need to get my Prog on.
The Runaway - Classic GG! Just musically great. An Inmate's Lullaby - Not my favorite GG track. For meditation might be good. Way of Life - Go! Expeience - Jammin tune, groovy man. A Reunion - Slower but nice violin here. In a Glass House - This is prog! This afternoon I got my classical with Bach, and then tonight I got my prog with Gentle Giant. That's how you do it. |

Yeah Bach's the man, no doubt. I'd put him even ahead of Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Haydn... whoever you can name. Ok, too many great tracks to name them all. I don't like the ones as much that are mainly organ/piano although a couple of them are really good like III. Presto from Italian Concerto in F Major, BWV 971 and especially Wir danken dir, Gott, wir danken dir, BWV 29: I. Sinfonia. Overall my favorite tracks are Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major, BWV 1068: II. Air, Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, BWV 140 "Sleepers Awake": I. Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, I. Allegro from Concerto for Two Violins, Strings and Basso Continuo in D minor, and BWV 1043, Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major, BWV 1048: III. Allegro. I like classical music that is mostly strings(violins, cellos) the best. Not really any other kind of music that beat that for me.

2 Saturday albums:
Family: A Song For Me Listening this again, now first time from vinyl. I have listened their albums quite much, but really not started to get bored at all - still sounding just great! Family really is the greatest band I have started to listen in 2010 decade! Really donīt quite understand why this band has never been as famous in Finland as for example Zeppelin, Purple, Hendrix, Cream, Traffic etc. No bad songs in this album (as not in any their six first albums), but my faves are Drowned In Wine, Love Is a Sleeper (this is the most fav from this album, really great melodies & groove), Wheels, Song For Sinking Lovers and really amazing & melodic instrumental 93`s OK J. Really like also long title piece and specially echoed violin in it. Pekka Airaksinen: Milk Sea Listening this first time today. Absolutely most serene & cosmic album from Pekka Iīve heard, reminds lot Tangerine Dream. Not a big fan of this kind of music, but Pekka manages sound himself also in this kind of album. Next time I think I will listen this with earphones, just because this is so meditative and needs your full attention.
