Really? It seems like on PA, PT is the new cool band to hate. And yeah that second sentence basically means that your opinions hold no weight.

I didn't say I hate them, but their continued place as the posted boys of modern prog rock concerns me. You'd think the poster boys of modern prog rock would be.....well, actually fair more progressive than PT. I mean come on, their last album had one proper progressive rock song on it, the rest was 'prog related' at best or just fairly standard alt rock with a twist. And there is nothing wrong with that as such because I like the music on it too, but when your the poster boys of modern rock and your last album that was hailed as the 'Prog Rock Masterpiece of 2007" had only one proper progressive song on it, there is something wrong. There are albums that make FOABP look like pop music that was released in 2007, yet didn't make the top 10 purely because they weren't PT.

Among some people they have been the band to hate ever since Deadwing/Fear of a Blank Planet won Collab Album of the Year. But they are still by far the most popular modern group, which people think is carrying the torch of prog for some reason I can't fathom. Just look at the reviews for their last 3 albums. I cannot think of another modern album besides a few Dream Theater ones that have 400 reviews. Hell, that's more reviews than most of the albums on the Top 100! Just look at the popularity of Kayo Dot on the forums, but they have less than a quarter of PT's reviews.
I personally do not see a single exceptional thing about PT, but whatever, enjoy it if you want. I just want people to stop calling Steve Wilson a progressive genius. :/

His pronunciation of the trailing t bothers me almost as much as "se-PUL-chur" in Amputechture. Like, was nobody else in the studio paying any attention to what he was saying? Were they too embarassed? I don't understand. At least tourniquet is a slightly common mispronunciation. |
It doesn't bother me.

I agree that Awake is superior to SFAM, but idk if ToT is. I usually like them both equally.
I agree that Kayo Dot is amazing. Not sure if I like them as much as PT yet though.

You and Harry come from a similar frame of reference when it comes to a metal background, however.

Were they too embarassed to say anything to the crazy afro dude? I don't understand! At least I've heard someone mispronounce tourniquet like that before...

I like PT, but my taste has been undergoing some interesting twists lately, so we'll see what ends up happening. Awake is amazing, but I don't prefer it to SFAM. I did listen to it today though and it was GREAT. ToT is alright.

PT has been over taken on my last FM list by both Pelican , and Kayo Dot very soon. Kayo Dot > PT.
There, I said it.
