I can give you a rec on the Stones:  they're kinda hit/miss for me, but the meat and potatoes albums like Let it Bleed, Exile, Sticky Fingers, Beggars Banquet - those are all good.  I started with LiB and wasn't disappointedThumbs Up

I can help you with Beatles and Maiden then Big smile

I'd go for Magical Mystery Tour, Abbey Road and the great but transitional Revolver as a start. White Album, Rubber Soul and Sgt. Pepper are a little bumpier, but I love them almost as much.

Iron Maiden is easy. Powerslave and Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son are absolutely essential. You won't find better melodic pseudo-proto-prog metal than that, unless you prefer another Maiden album Wink Next step could actually be a newer album, Brave New World, Dance of Death or A Matter of Life and Death Smile

We talk about music a lot, join in. It's just that there's no STAY ON TOPIC rule in here. A mini-version of PA - but relaxed and often...quite odd.

Rolling Stones and Metallica are kinda neglected by me, but at least for a reason - I never really liked what I heard.

Completely agree. Listened to Quadrophenia again earlier. Very good record, even if the faux-folk acoustic pieces are a bit of a let-down.

I will always prefer Who's Next. Surprisingly high quality on all the songs, and energy to die for. Quadrophenia have amazing highs, but too may disappointing lows to beat Who's Next.

I'll have to pick that up sometime (my The Who collection is currently Tommy + Quadrophenia). I also need to get some Rolling Stones, Beatles, Iron Maiden or Metallica stuff sometime, because I feel that these bands are probably important.

No. Angry

It must be there to differentiate THE BEST ALBUMS EVER from albums that barely miss that mark.

What I'd quite like to do is give everything a secondary rating out of 15.  A complete waste of time, but it'd make me feel better about it (and without the daft but necessary 'six stars' thing).

Hence, for 5 star albums.
Larks' Tongues In Aspic; H To He, Who Am The Only One 15
Les Porches; Aqualung; ELP 14
In The Land Of Grey And Pink; The Quiet Zone/The Pleasure Dome; Lizard; Tales From Topographic Oceans 13

Oooh, that is interesting.

Moving Pictures; In Praise of Learning 15
Hot Rats; Leftoverture; Paradox Hotel 14
Relayer; The Lamb 13

Except that Close To The Edge is at least two or three times as amazing. Plus, it has Bruford.

CTTE = 6 stars
Relayer = 5 stars
Yes Album = 4 stars
