Need to go to bed, but I don't feel like it. I guess I'll choose a third option: listen to music and read a book - in bed.

Open your eyes, man. :P
Although I've always had problems with most jazz rock, and I'm not sure why. This whole conversation is probably just me being elitist again, but the reason I used to think Schizoid Man was so awesome was because it was seemed like such agressive groundbreaking music to me, and I liked it for that and the dissonant rocking out factor. But it totally pales compared to Ayler or Brotzmann, which was over 5 years earlier. If you're listening to it for the melody, then I guess that doesn't matter.

I used to love Genesis, too, which makes me pretty sad.
But yeah, everything about CTTE seems to be designed to drive me crazy. I used to rate Relayer 5 stars, but who knows now that I actually like jazz.

All of us seems to have at least one classical album we just don't like.

It must be there to differentiate THE BEST ALBUMS EVER from albums that barely miss that mark.
|
It's actually kind of incredibly annoying.
Well while I disagree with you on Animals and DSOTM (well, I would a year and a half ago, I haven't listened to it since), can I say that CTTE, ITCOTCK are pushing 3 stars? SEBTP was pretty bad when I revisited it recently--maybe I wasn't in the right mood--and I fear that other classic prog will be the same. So I haven't gotten around to the rest of my prog collection because I don't want to ruin the memory.
But I never liked CTTE and ITCOTCK at all, and listening to real jazz took away the enjoyment of Schizoid Man, which makes that album worthless to me.

I'm not a big Beatles guy, but I have to agree that Abbey Road is a good album. Plus it has one of my all-time favorite tracks, Here Comes the Sun. I'm a Maiden n00b as well; my Dad was a huge fan back in the day so I'll have to raid his cassette tape collection some time (haha). |
I've seen them live twice and I'm sure as hell gonna be there next time they're here. I never cared much for music until I suddenly fell in love with Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYSKXrKCFWE&feature=related ^ Goosebumps. 4 rows from the stage, the crowd wild, the band speechless. It was like this for 10 minutes. I was so touched, seeing the Boys so touched ![Embarrassed Embarrassed](smileys/smiley9.gif) ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif)
