I take it that easing the restrictions in the US means that the members of Congress won't be working from home any more?

Cheers, that's helpful, except I still can't find out about those 17% infected going to work.

Maybe this. https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2020/05/07/new-survey-suggests-66--of-all-new-hospitalizations-are-from-people-sheltering-at-home-?fbclid=IwAR2hE7LBiW7BA-rQ2bp_G6P2Y5C-HRc6a_KPg-FVH8ytTgfj1-7yOWtvUNM |

Thanks, glad you didn't think I was totally wacky with my theory. I did find a couple of news reports, but they had those subscription pop-ups, I didn't want to subject people to that. Maybe someone around here has a free and trustworthy source....

I understand what you're saying, but even so, the difference between those numbers go against just about anything I thought I new about this disease. If they're accurate, I don't know what to think anymore. How is it that this is not a huge thing? I tried to find the original of Cuomo's quote, but I couldn't find it, although I didn't invest very much time. Anyone have a source for his figures? Steve G's post as a few days old now, and if these figures are correct, I'd have thought that the Trumpeters would be shouting it from the rooftops by now.

Possible explanation that the 60% that stayed home may have already had it, but didn't show symptoms yet. New Yorkers were pretty adherent to shelter in place, the vast majority of businesses shut down, so there weren't very many people going to work at all, and those who would have been (should have, anyway) should have stayed home if they were already sick, so less chances to continue spreading it amongst the workers. Most workplaces started early in the game in NY, with trying to comply with social distancing and other safeguarding measures at work as well. Also thinking that the very first people to shelter in place may also just have been those most potentially vulnerable to the disease. Remember the idea was to try to keep hospitals from being overwhelmed by the worst cases, knowing that there would be little to do to keep people from contracting the virus. And I could be completely wrong. All I know is that here in Oregon we also were instructed to shelter in place early and there are few cases here compared to next door Washington, even in our more populous towns.

Problem is of course that if there is an explosion of cases in the US, with all the international trade connections etc. this will be a problem for the whole world. I don't see Europe closing completely to the US any time soon. Well, except Europeans aren't that good at social distancing and taking seriously the remaining restrictions either, so maybe we don't need the US to be in a huge mess, we can do it on our own.

Seems as though the great orange genius is killing off his own voters. Doesn't seem a great re-election strategy! |

My friend, there are a lot of very stupid American citizens running around this place, mostly belonging to the Right-Wing Republican party (Trump's). Let them open their tattoo parlors, their pubs, their chicken-shack restaurants....already, we are starting to see the result in terms of increased case counts in Republican voting districts. Let's just say I miss Europe and the UK! Be safe!

With all the US states opening up, it's amazing how they must all be aware that they're being set up to take the fall when (not if) this goes pear-shaped, and not howling in protest. Covid cases will start to rise dramatically, and Trump, who is urging the states to open up, will be able to claim that this wouldn't have happened if they'd have stuck to his official guidelines before opening. This is going to be quite the show. Shame about all the corpses though.

This Judy Mikovits person sounds like a real piece of work. You'll need to fasten your tinfoil helmet tightly to believe this mangled mess of medical misinformation. Another martyr in the cause of QAnon, anti-vaxxers and flat-earthers.....

I have seen and heard some strange things during this period, but that one just about beats them all. Stories in the paper today indicate that UK statistician boffins are going to state that the prevalence of the infection in our country at this moment in time is between 0.2 and 0.6% of the population, so some 400,000 with the lurg. Quite how they will arrive at this is anybody’s guess, but the figure will probably be too high for Boris to consider any meaningful easing of our ongoing lockdown.

NY's Governor Coumo now says that of all of the people who went to work last month, 17% contracted the virus while 60% of those that stayed home got it. Wtf?

No, she is a fountain of self-serving information. She peddles her doctorate and supports unproven and dangerous medical theories. Our Chicago Tribune did an expose on her years ago, see if this opens for you: |

Wow, this is fantastic! Not only that Jesus is being accused of having a chequered past (probably all that stealing, killing, and adultery), but now the entire discussion is moving onto religious territory. Way to go. That'll keep everyone on track.
